The “Muslim Test” – How To Expose The Hypocrisy Of The Religious Right

The following piece by my favorite writer over at Addicting Info, , is an eye-opener for Liberals and Conservatives.

Addicting Info

[…] the Right has spun a truly fantastic yarn where they are an oppressed minority and Christianity is beset on all sides by those with evil intent. But there is a way to pierce this fabrication. I call it “The Muslim Test.”

So what is the Muslim Test? Simple! It is the fool proof method of revealing this Right Wing hypocrisy. As the last three years have made blindingly obvious, the average conservative has lost all sense of reality. They are so consumed by hatred of Muslims, they’ve jettisoned every shred of rationality. But how do you get through to people this crazed? Well, you really can’t. But what youcan do is force them to confront their lunacy and watch them howl at the moon in outrage. This provides a glimpse for neutral or undecided bystanders into the depths of Right Wing fanaticism while providing liberals with an amusing game to play with mentally unhinged people.

Here’s how the Muslim Test works: Take any conservative claim that they are being oppressed by evil secularists or rival religions, replace Christianity with “Islam” and see if the offended party is still quite as gung-ho. Conversely, take any demand  for special privileges, insist that they be granted to Islam as well and watch the odd conservative head explode.

Let’s try it out!!

Angry conservative: “I’m offended that those darn liberals have taken prayer out of school! I demand that we allow our children to worship in the classroom!”

The Muslim Test: “Well, OK, we’ll allow the principal, Mr. Siddiq, to lead a morning prayer to Allah.”

Angry conservative: “WHAT?! I don’t want my children worshiping another faith!”

The Muslim Test: “Well, then they can stand out in the hallway while the class prays.”

Angry conservative: “ABSOLUTELY NOT! Why should MY children be treated like outcasts?!”

See how easy this is?

Angry conservative: “You can’t build a mosque in our neighborhood! We won’t allow it!”

The Muslim Test: “I guess you if you really feel that strongly about it, it’s OK. I hope you don’t mind, but the Muslim community of Dearborn, Michigan has said the same thing about new churches.”

Angry conservative: “They can’t do that! The Constitution says that I have the right to freedom of religion! I can build a church where ever I want!”

Please don’t look for consistency from these people. You won’t find it.

Angry conservative: “The Constitution does not say anything about keeping Church and State separate! We should base our laws on the Bible!”

The Muslim Test: “Well, OK. We’ll make it illegal to eat, drink or have sex between dawn and dusk during Ramadan.”

Angry conservative: “Wait, that doesn’t sound like the Bible…”

The Muslim Test: “Obviously pork will be illegal.”

Angry conservative: “Now hold on there…”

The Muslim Test: “And state mandated circumcisions for all males.”

Angry conservative: “Wait a minute! I meant MY religion!!!”

The Muslim Test: “Of course you did…”

You should have a pretty good idea of how the Muslim Test works now. Go ahead and try it out on a few of your conservative friends!*

*The staff of takes no responsibility for the fallout when your conservative friends call you a terrorist sympathizer and defriend you.

Allen West (R-FL) Says the ‘Arab Spring’ Is Actually About Reestablishing the Caliphate

You can’t get farther right than this idiot…

Crooks & Liars

Extreme right-wing Florida Congressman Allen West, who recently declined to run for United States senate, said in his weekly address that the Arab Spring of democratization in the Middle East and surrounding areas is really about Muslims trying to re-establish the historical caliphate:

This so-called “Arab Spring” is less about a democratic movement, than it is about the early phase of the restoration of an Islamic Caliphate, the last being the Ottoman Empire.

We are witnessing secular Muslim leaders being deposed in very volatile and unstable nations. This growing Islamic Totalitarianism manifested in militant Islam has had a modus operand [sic] of capitalizing on unstable political situations (Iran, Afghanistan, Somalia).

Now we see these same types of instances occurring in Egypt, Libya, and Syria and the rose-colored glasses of some seek to portray this as a great awakening of liberty. History does not support this in the Middle East.

We must evaluate these occurrences through the prism of keen strategic and operational insight which looks out 10, 20, or 30 years.

If we had done so during the deposing of the Shah of Iran, we might have been able to prevent what arose. The Iran with which we must contend today is the major exporter of Islamic totalitarianism and state sponsored terrorism.

In the rest of the essay, he goes on to condemn Barack Obama, Palestine and the United Nations, while calling for militant support for Israel and its current borders.

The term “caliphate” refers to the historical unified Islamic government that dominated much of the Middle East and northern Africa through 1924. West and others seem to be suggesting the return of a caliphate would involve a anti-Western, anti-Israeli unified Muslim front that could threaten the United States and its allies. West’s remarks echo those of Glenn Beck who frequently warns of a coming caliphate.

West has a history of extreme rhetoric relating to Islam and the caliphate comments are far from the worst:

Bachmann’s Husband Calls Homosexuals ‘Barbarians’ Who ‘Need To Be Educated’ And ‘Disciplined’

Shades of 1935 Germany!

Think Progress

When trying to figure out where presidential candidate Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-MN) gets her stringent, anti-gay views, you only have to look as far as her husband. Dr. Marcus Bachmann, who has described himself as his wife’s “strategist,” runs a Christian-based counseling center in Minnesota that has been rumored to offer reparative treatment for those looking to “ungay” themselves.

Just last summer, Dr. Bachmann explained his position on homosexuality while offering theoretical advice to parents concerned that one of their children was gay.

BACHMANN: We have to understand: barbarians need to be educated. They need to be disciplined. Just because someone feels it or thinks it doesn’t mean that we are supposed to go down that road. That’s what is called the sinful nature. We have a responsibility as parents and as authority figures not to encourage such thoughts and feelings from moving into the action steps…

And let’s face it: what is our culture, what is our public education system doing today? They are giving full, wide-open doors to children, not only giving encouragement to think it but to encourage action steps. That’s why when we understand what truly is the percentage of homosexuals in this country, it is small. But by these open doors, I can see and we are experiencing, that it is starting to increase.

Muslims In America – The Shocking Truth – Repost

In light of the congressional hearings on “Muslim radicalism in America” chaired by Rep. Steve King (R-NY) I’ve decided to repost this article.

What I have posted below is merely a snippet of an incredible post by Russell King of Filtered News, the same writer who brought us An Open Letter To Conservatives.   I urge everyone to visit his site and read the complete post, entitled:

Muslims in America: The shocking truth!

Paul Revere is alive!  He rides the airwaves, newsprint and Internet this time, awakening us to a new danger invading our homeland, a new enemy coming to destroy our nation:  Muslims!  The trouble is, our modern would-be midnight riders are shamefully, miserably, ridiculously wrong.

They’re coming to conquer us!

“In Islam, a mosque means ‘We have conquered this country,’” one man told CNN affiliate WTVF. “And where are they? They’re in the center of Tennessee. They’re going to say, ‘We have conquered Tennessee.’”

Never mind: “Islam” is a religion, not a language.  Never mind:  In Arabic, the language in which the Koran was written, “mosque” means “a place of prostration” (a submissive position before God, usually for prayer), not “we have conquered this country.”

They’re coming to conquer us!

In the Nashville suburb of Murfreesboro, opponents of a new Islamic center say they believe the mosque will be more than a place of prayer. They are afraid the 15-acre site that was once farmland will be turned into a terrorist training ground for Muslim militants bent on overthrowing the U.S. government.

They’re coming but — uh…. they’re really… slow?

“The Islamic center has been here since the early ’80s, 12 years in this location. There’s nothing different now except it’s going to be a little bigger.”

Oh. Never mind.

They’re coming and they’re evil and wicked and attacking us!

“…Islam has attacked us. The God of Islam is not the same God. He’s not the son of God of the Christian or Judeo-Christian faith. It’s a different God, and I believe it is a very evil and wicked religion.”

Never mind: In 2007, President Bush said Islam is a great religion that preaches peace and prays to the same God of other faiths.

Ahead of hosting an iftar celebration at the White House, President Bush said the Islamic religion “is a great religion that preaches peace,” and that Americans are free “to worship any way they see fit….” stating his own belief that the global community, regardless of individual faiths, “prays to the same God.”

They’re coming with Nukes!

…the U.S. is peppered with compounds at which Islam fundamentalists are training terrorists for jihad. …Islamic extremists are hoarding nuclear materials with plans to simultaneously attack at least seven major American cities in what would result in a stateside Hiroshima.

…Islamic terrorist groups have at least 500 underground bunkers and caches of weapons. I thought there were only 14 jihad training compounds throughout the States. Now I know there are more than 40…. There could be as many as 200…

They’re coming and they’re scary black guys with big muscles and scary costumes!

… robust and muscular African-Americans in full Islamic garb…

They’re coming and they’re the #1 problem facing America!

Americans need to seriously consider how Islam and its supremacy dogmatic philosophy is to be handled least we revert into 7th Century Old World barbarism. A good first step would be to think about Islam as a political and social system first and foremost, that is exactly opposite from our own social and political values, and one whose advance needs to be stopped. Considering the birth-rate of American infidels, to give total freedom of Islam to grow here in America is the same as generating our own death-wish, demise, and all the values we hold dear.

They’re coming and they’ve got the Devil on their side!

“These people are crazed fanatics, and I want to say it now: I believe it’s motivated by demonic power. It is satanic and it’s time we recognize what we’re dealing with.  The goal of Islam, ladies and gentlemen, whether you like it or not, is world domination”

They’re coming and the president and his buddies are helping them destroy America!

We can see, in the concrete, the left’s coalition with the Islamic Supremacists and how it is undermining American sovereignty and our national self interest — as is meticulously documented in my book, The Post-American Presidency: The Obama Administration’s War on America. It’s hard for Americans to understand how to fight a shadowy enemy you can’t see.

… a Machiavellian backroom power grab and the takedown of American sovereignty ….

They’re coming to kill us!

…there need be a line drawn somewhere in kissing moslem ass.

The line is here.

They wish to kill us, all of us. Or enslave or convert.

They’re coming and they’re really violent!

Two years ago, several men broke into the Islamic Center of Columbia, about 30 miles southwest of Murfreesboro, and torched it with molotov cocktails, stealing a stereo system and painting swastikas and “White Power” on the front of the building.

Oh… wait.  That was somebody else.  (ahem) Never mind.

They’re coming and they’re really scary people!

Islam is a political system of global domination… 30%… ARE terrorists…. There’s 35 training camps across the United States of America….  We know we’ve got a huge terrorist network here in Tennessee.  The Nashville Islamic Center appears to be the mother ship…

They’re coming and it’s a holy war!

Parsley says there is a war and he wants bigger war, as America can only “fulfill its divine purpose” by seeing to it that Islam, “this false religion, is destroyed.” Though he spells out no specific strategy, he writes things like, “We find now we have no choice. The time has come” to destroy “this anti-Christ religion,” inspired by demons who spoke to Allah.

They’re coming and we’d better stop them!

…be afraid, be very afraid and maybe we all can stop the American Jihad before another attack happens from the practitioners of the ‘Religion of Peace’.

They’re coming and they’re self-contradictory (both commie and fascist?)!

“If we don’t stop covering up what Islam is … Islam is a violent — I was going to say religion, but it’s not a religion, it’s a political system, it’s a violent political system bent on the overthrow of the governments of the world and world domination,” Robertson said. “You’re dealing with not a religion, you’re dealing with a political system, and I think we should treat it as such, and treat its adherents as such as we would members of the communist party, members of some fascist group.”

They’re coming and they’ve declared war on us!

You have join forces with the other side…again and that side is bent on destroying our republican form of government replacing it with a theocracy and your helping the Jihadists accomplish their goals. That once again makes you one seditious progressive bastard without a thought of true patriotic duty.

You fail to see that Islam establishes Sharia Law as it’s judicial system which establishes Islam as the official state religion, that my seditious progressive foe goes against our First Amendment establishment clause and that makes Islam unconstitutional….

Your failure to recognize this makes you worse than an ‘idiot’, it makes you an Islamic Appeaser and traitor since Islam has declared WAR on the U.S. and other non-submitting nations….

Oh dear me, such terrible trouble we’re in!  The Others are coming!  The Others are coming!  The strange, foreign anti-you-and-me Others are coming!  Or not.

NYC Islamic Center Releases Futuristic Building Sketches

TPM Live Wire

The planned Park51 Islamic cultural center near Ground Zero has drawn the ire of many a conservative this election season. But several detailed drawings of the project released by the developer show a building that doesn’t look much like a mosque at all.

SOMA Architects, Park51’s architecture consultants, prepared the images, which were posted on Park51’s website.

The Grio: New Birth hears no evil, sees no evil in Bishop Long sex scandal

I simply chose to reserve judgment on this matter until all the facts are out.

The Grio

Everything “seemed” to be back to normal at New Birth Missionary Baptist Church for the first Sunday in October. Like every Sabbath — when there’s no sex scandal rocking the 25,000 member mega-church — the parking lot is always full and it takes forever to get in and out of the traffic near the suburban Atlanta church.

No change in the amen corner either. The saints, sinners, the congregants were all there cheering on their fearless leader, the Rev. Eddie Long, who calls himself a bishop. I have never quite understood how one becomes or is elevated to a bishop in a Baptist church, since Baptists do not operate under a diocesan system.

“Seemed” to be back to normal, seems the best way to describe New Birth this week in that all too often things rarely are as they seem.

Webster defines the word seem two ways: 1: to appear to the observation or understanding; 2: to give the impression of being.

So on communion Sunday New Birth gave the impression of being, well, normal. Long’s sermon did not address the storm in which he, and by extension his flock is embroiled. He made no references to the lawsuits accusing him of sexual coercion by four young men. He did say that “in times of challenge, there are several things that come out. Your faith will be strengthened or weakened, my faith is being strengthened.” He also said he would not be “pulled into a street fight.”

But in the background, it’s hard to believe anything is normal at the church. Church lawyers continue to release public statements chastising the young men’s legal effort, yet there still has been no all-out denial by Long himself. The church has hired a private investigator to help it make its case. If there is no wrongdoing, why do you need a Magnum P.I.? And, there is still the possibility that other young men could come forward with similar stories.

What continues to be so troubling is that no one has asked the simple question: “What if the young men are telling the truth?”

What if they are telling the truth? Then what?

Even the greatest skeptic would have to wonder how could four young men, in their teens at the time, allege the sexual escapades happened, make up all these gory details. All of it? Really? The fourth young man, from Long’s satellite church in Charlotte, N.C. reportedly, did not even know the other plaintiffs, but his allegations are almost identical to the other three.

Religion: Who Knows What

Mario Piperni

Not surprising.

A new survey of Americans’ knowledge of religion found that atheists, agnostics, Jews and Mormons outperformed Protestants and Roman Catholics in answering questions about major religions, while many respondents could not correctly give the most basic tenets of their own faiths.

While most people are born into their parent’s religion and stick with it for the duration of their lives, it’s usually a different matter for atheists and agnostics.  They tend to evolve into their beliefs after some reflection and study.

And no, I am not implying that all religious individuals are idiots who do not ever reflect or study.  Some of course do and come to form a stronger bond with their own religion.  But I am suggesting that most people who refer to themselves as religious do not bother to ever question the tenets of their religion (or other religions) and choose to believe with little, if any, question or thought.  Thus the poorer showing on the survey.

If you’re interested, Pew has an online quiz on religion you can use to test yourself.

Eddie Long, Atlanta Bishop, Accused Of Sexual Abuse By Male Parishioners (Updated)

My daughter-in-law is one of those who adamantly refuses to believe that this man could do ANYTHING wrong.  On the other hand, I always imagined him to be a latent womanizer.   Whatever his vice, I’m afraid I didn’t believe he was a true “man of the cloth”.

Once again, this is why Ghandi’s quote rings so true with me and my belief system:

“I like your Christ, I do not like your Christians. Your Christians are so unlike your Christ”

My sentiments, exactly.  Studying and researching about the “historic Jesus” is fascinating, but espousing to ANY organized religion is simply not for me.

9-22-2010 UPDATE:  I want to say this about my above opinion on this issue:  Bishop Eddie Long is innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.  I think my earlier post didn’t take that into consideration when I voiced my opinion.  For that, I apologize to Bishop Long and his family for my hasty comments.  I truly hope that these allegations are not true and that the Bishop will be exonerated.

Huffington Post

ATLANTA — Two men have filed a lawsuit accusing Bishop Eddie Long of exploiting his role as pastor of an Atlanta-area megachurch to coerce them into sexual relationships when they were young members of his congregation.

Lawyers for the men, now 20 and 21, say they filed the lawsuit on Tuesday in DeKalb County Court. The Associated Press generally does not identify people who say they were victims of sexual impropriety.

Craig Gillen, Long’s attorney, said Tuesday the pastor “categorically denies the allegations.”

“We find it unfortunate that these two young men would take this course of action,” Gillen said, adding that Long had not yet been served with copies of the lawsuits.

The men were 17- and 18-year-old members of Long’s New Birth Missionary Baptist Church in Lithonia, when they say Long abused his spiritual authority to seduce them with with cars, money, clothes, jewelry, international trips and access to celebrities.

B.J. Bernstein, an attorney representing the plaintiffs, said that when the relationships started, the plaintiffs were past the legal age of consent in Georgia, which is 15.

“Defendant Long has utilized his spiritual authority to coerce certain young male members … into engaging in sexual acts and relationships for his own personal sexual gratification,” the lawsuits read.

When asked about a possible motive for the accusations, Gillen referred to a break-in at Long’s office in June.

Bergstein said one of the plaintiffs is facing a criminal burglary charge in the incident. She said the break-in was a way of lashing out at Long.

Bernstein said she contacted the U.S. Attorney’s Office earlier this month when she became aware of the young men’s allegations. She did not know what action, if any, the agency planned to take.

Orzy Theus, a spokesman for the DeKalb County district attorney’s office, said she was not aware on Tuesday of an investigation in that office related to the allegations.

Long was appointed pastor of New Birth in 1987. Then, the church had about 150 members. Less than four years later, the church had grown to more than 8,000 members, many of whom reside in DeKalb County, home to many affluent African-Americans. Athletes and entertainers claim membership at the church, and among its prominent clergy is the Rev. Bernice King, the youngest daughter of the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr.

Today, New Birth sits on 250 acres and has more than 25,000 members, a $50 million, 10,000-seat cathedral and more than 40 ministries – including the Longfellows Youth Academy, a tuition-based program for young men 13 to 18.
