Sunday Talk: Situation Normal All Faked Up

I think we can all agree that, with a few notable exceptions, the mainstream media did a pretty terrible job covering the candidates in the run-up to the election.

Many of us assumed that, now that it’s over and they don’t have Hillary Clinton to kick around anymore, things would change for the better.

But we were wrongvery wrong.

In the week and a half since Donald Trump claimed victory, the press has done its very best to normalize his unethical, un-presidential, and potentially illegal behavior.

As Trump has begun to assemble his #CabinetOfDeplorablesfilling it with racists and antiSemites and Islamophobes, oh my!the media has taken to using weasel words such as “controversial” to describe them, while urging Americans to give hate a chance.

And, for the most part, they’ve turned a blind eye towards Trump’s (and his children’s) unprecedented conflicts of interest.

Really, it seems like the only thing the press is truly bothered by is Trump restricting their access to him.

Also, too… the “harassment” of Mike Pence by the cast of Hamilton.

The mayor of Clay, WV resigned in disgrace after comparing Michelle Obama to an ape in heels, as opposed to a classy lady like Melania Trump.

Mayor Beverly Whaling, who had commented approvingly on a Facebook post comparing the first lady to an ape, turned in her letter of resignation Tuesday. Joe Coleman, the town recorder, said the resignation was effective immediately; officials here are now scrambling to replace the mayor, who had three years left on her term.

Whaling resigned a day after the director of a government-funded nonprofit was removed from her position amid the backlash over her Facebook post.

After Donald Trump’s election as president, Pamela Ramsey Taylor, who was director of the Clay County Development Corp., took to social media to comment on the upcoming shift from Obama to Melania Trump, writing: “It will be so refreshing to have a classy, beautiful, dignified First Lady back in the White House.”

She added: “I’m tired of seeing a Ape in heels.”

NBC affiliate WSAZ reported that Whaling, the mayor, then replied, “Just made my day Pam.”

A Tennessee official resigned his position after unfavorably comparing President Obama to the KKK.

The deputy director of the Department of Corrections in Shelby County, Tennessee took to his Facebook page to post some violently racist posts, Slate reports.

David Barber, who worked for the county for roughly 17 years managing budgets and inmate records at state prisons in Tennessee, resigned over the posts on Tuesday, according to WBTV.

The posts included an image by “The Free Patriot” with a photo of Obama next to a member of the KKK that read “Lets (sic) get 5000 LIKES for kicking this clown out of office for good!” Barber’s caption noted, “The KKK is more American than the illegal president!”

He wrote in another post, “If TRUMP wins and obummer cannot start martial law, he will run to his new mansion in thaArab (sic) world to hide. Hopefully the Muslims will eliminate him and mooshelle as queers.”

The department was made aware of the posts last Friday and Barber would have likely faced termination if he did not resign on his own.

And, finally…

Actor James Woods bid adieu to Twitter after the service suspended some of its most offensive alt-right users.

Actor James Woods has quit Twitter over what he calls censorship.

The 69-year-old Hollywood veteran has been an outspoken supporter of President-elect Donald Trump and has more than 480,000 followers.

Woods’s declaration comes on the heels of a Wednesday USA Today report that Twitter has suspended several high-profile accounts associated with the “alt-right” movement, including Richard Spencer, who operates an alt-right think tank. Spencer had a verified account on Twitter.

Woods account is still available for viewing, but he has not tweeted since announcing his intention to quit the social media platform on Thursday.
