Looking back at the most controversial election ever

The road to Election Day 2016 hasn’t been a smooth one. It was filled with sexual assault allegations, controversial emails and Twitter meltdowns. But we’re almost there. With only two days to go before America elects its next president, let’s take a look at how we got here.

Neither major party candidate could stay away from controversy along their respective campaign trails. Donald Trump faced pushback over insulting minorities, alienating women and refusing to release his taxes, while Hillary Clinton battled questions about the Clinton Foundation, her speeches to Wall Street executives and, of course, her emails.

The most recent national polls show Clinton with a five-point lead over Trump, but polls only tell us so much. In the end, it’s up to the voters and the elusive Electoral College.

From identifying voter suppression to polling place rules, here’s everything you need to know about the voting process ahead of Tuesday.

And don’t forget — you’ll be voting for a whole lot more than just the next president. The Democrats are hoping to regain control in the Republican-majority House,  and many states will be voting on extremely important ballot initiatives.

Go forth, and may the voting forces be ever in your favor.
