Hey Beyoncé, Whitney Houston Lip Synced, Too (Video)

9 Infamous Lip Syncs

What would have been worse?  If Bey had screwed up the song in front of TENS of millions of viewers and a million people LIVE?

My guess is that some of the old stodgy types didn’t like her “soulful” rendition and “outed” her for it.

Lip syncing is not unusual in big venue events…

The Daily Beast

It’s not just Beyoncé, folks. From Ashlee Simpson to Luciano Pavarotti—and yes, even Whitney Houston at the 1991 Super Bowl—see other famous performances that weren’t quite live.

Whitney Houston at the 1991 Super Bowl

“It might well be the best Super Bowl performance of all time,” said Billboardmagazine editor Danyel Smith. The only problem? Whitney Houston’s 1991 rendition of the “Star Spangled Banner” was lip-synced. “The music was pre-recorded, and so was the vocal,” confirmed Houston’s  former musical director Rickey Minor to ABC News last year. With all the crowd noise, a jet flyover, and the unpredictability of a live event, Minor said “that’s the best way to do it.” Houston’s performance came just as the U.S. entered the first Gulf War; a recording of the song, released by popular demand, reached the top 20 on the Billboard charts.

Ashlee Simpson on ‘SNL’

When Ashlee Simpson got ready to perform her song “Autobiography” onSaturday Night Live in 2004, she had no idea she was about to experience a moment that would come to define her musical life for years to come. You remember: the wrong song started to play—ironically, given the career-shattering implications, it was called “Pieces of Me.” Simpson slumped around for a bit, and then, in an awkward coup de grace, proceeded to dance what she later called a “hoe-down.”

Elton John Insults Madonna at 2004 ‘Q Awards’

Hey Madonna, can you feel the love tonight? Probably not. Because back in 2004, Sir Elton John famously bashed your nomination in the “live act” category at the Q Awards, hosted by the magazine Q. “Since when has lip-syncing been live?” Sir John said. “Anyone who lip-syncs in public on stage when you pay 75 pounds to see them should be shot. Thank you very much.” He added some good expletives for emphasis.

Pavarotti at the 2006 Turin Olympics

Read this as an opera singer: Nooooooooooo! Turns out esteemed tenor Luciano Pavarotti lip-synced his virtuosic performance at Turin’s 2006 Winter Olympics. Conductor Leone Magiera reportedly wrote in a memoir that Pavarotti’s declining health, added to the brisk cold at the Games, made it “too dangerous for him … to risk a live performance before a global audience.”

Jennifer Hudson at the 2009 Super Bowl

Rickey Minor was at it again at the 2009 Super Bowl, when he insisted that Jennifer Hudson and Faith Hill lip-synch the national anthem and “America the Beautiful,” respectively. “I would never recommend any artist go live because the slightest glitch would devastate the performance,” he said. And not singing doesn’t?!

50 Cent at the BET Awards

When the lyrics dropped out of his backing track at the 2007 BET Awards, 50 Cent decided to let the awkwardness hang in the air. Gunshot sound effects punctuated the auditorium as Fiddy waded into the audience to give out handshakes, before the music to “Amusement Park” returned in full, and the rapper continued lip syncing.

(Unable to imbed video)

Milli Vanilli at…Always

“Girl You Know It’s True”…that Milli Vanilli didn’t sing any of their songs. Ever! When the pop group had its Grammy revoked in 1990, it was the culmination of the greatest lip-syncing scam of all time. We’re still not sure if their hair was real.

Britney on her ‘Circus’ Tour

Oops… After Britney Spears’s comeback tour sparked controversy over accusations of lip syncing, John Mayer tweeted, “If you’re shocked that Britney was lip-syncing at her concert and want your money back, life may continue to be hard for you.” Enough said.

Beyonce Obama’s Second Inauguration

Say it ain’t so, B! The Times of London broke the story Tuesday, and everybody suddenly forgot about Lance Armstrong.

Conservative Site Slams Roberta Flack & Soledad O’Brien For ‘Obama Bump’ At Whitney Funeral

Oh for goodness sake!

Mediaite

Conservative media watchdog Newsbusters has turned making a left-wing bias out of a molehill into a fine art form, but their working of the ref hit something of a low today. The site is accusing CNN’s Soledad O’Brien of “overt partisanship” for accepting an “Obama Bump” from R&B legendRoberta Flack (“Obama Bump” was Flack’s term) as the network’s coverage of Whitney Houston‘s funeral tossed to a commercial break.

Here’s a clip of the “scandalous” moment, with a little bit extra of the completely apolitical context:

http://www.mediaite.com/tv/conservative-site-slams-roberta-flack-soledad-obrien-for-obama-bump-at-whitney-funeral/

A few weeks ago, Newsbusters‘ Noel Sheppard keyed off on a Mediaite item about Roland Martin’s idiosyncratic exit from O’Brien’s stage, and interpreted their shared high-five as an indication of bias against Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney. O’Brien responded on Twitter that Sheppard’s accusation was false, and Martin feuded with Sheppard at length via Twitter.

Earlier today, Soledad O’Brien provided an apparently irresistible opportunity to grind that ax some more. From Newsbusters: (emphasis mine)

After CNN’s Soledad O’Brien took some heat a few weeks ago for accepting a high five from Roland Martin as congratulations for skewering Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney, you’d think she be careful not to demonstrate such overt partisanship while on the air.

Just to be clear, Soledad O’Brien “took some heat a few weeks ago” from Noel Sheppard. He goes on to say:

After Houston’s funeral, Morgan and O’Brien interviewed Jesse Jackson and Flack.

Before breaking for a commercial, Jackson got up to shake Morgan and O’Brien’s hands saying, “We’re going to the cemetery.”

Flack then held out her fist saying, “Let’s have an Obama bump here.”

Morgan and O’Brien obliged with the latter saying, “Absolutely.”

Let me get this straight: R&B legend Roberta Flack is wrapping up a segment of remembrances at Whitney Houston’s funeral, offers Soledad O’Brien a pound, rather than a handshake, and Ms. O’Brien is supposed to do what? Spit on Roberta Flack because she called it an Obama Bump? Perhaps launch into negotiations? “I will gladly accept your departing gesture, provided you re-moniker it in a less partisan fashion.”

The next line would be comical if the entire exercise wasn’t so irreverent, so misplaced in its priorities:

As if the President and the First Lady originated this practice.

That’s a great point. How on Earth did the fist bump become so closely associated with President Obama? Oh yeah, here’s how

Hmmm, so maybe Roberta Flack and Soledad O’Brien were making some kind of coded tribute to Fox News! Paging Media Matters!

Posting a flimsy blog item isn’t, itself, a high crime, but allowing partisan bitterness to intrude needlessly into a solemn occasion is shameful. Newsbusters should have given it a rest today.

Fox Host Eric Bolling To Rep. Maxine Waters: ‘Step Away From The Crack Pipe’

I’ve figured it out.  Bolling and the other bottom feeders over at Faux News have to feed their ignorant, bigoted, misogynistic, brain-dead viewers with this sort of fodder every evening and on their internet site Fox Nation, so they say and do things like this just to get a rise from their base and from angered liberals.

Now that I get what they’re doing, I’m not as angry as I was when I first read this piece.  I’ve come to the conclusion that they’re all a bunch of sick asses over there.

Think Progress

Fox News host Eric Bolling — who is fond of discussing President Obama’s penchant for “chugging 40′s” and inviting “hoodlum[s] in hizzouse” and the “crib” — told Rep. Maxine Waters (D-CA) this morning that she should “step away from the crack pipe.” While discussing Waters strong rhetoric about bankers and the GOP leadership, Bolling, without any apparent relevancy aside from the fact they are both African-American women, offered some friendly advice: “Congresswoman, you saw what happened to Whitney Houston. Step away from the crack pipe.” Watch it via Media Matters.

Fox News’ Racist Comments About Whitney Houston’s Death Are “Disappeared”

To me, those comments by Fox News readers on Whitney Houston’s death were among the most horrific racist rhetoric that I have ever seen…

Little Green Footballs – Charles Johnson

Here’s a great post at Balloon Juice by “Soonergrunt,” reacting to our post Sunday about Fox News commenters and their ugly racism: Why We Fight.

This is Why We Fight. This is the nature of the opposition. I live amongst these people here in what they proudly refer to as “the buckle of the bible belt” and I’m here to tell you that John’s post of last week was right on the money. You need to read their sites—Fox News, Free Republic, Lucianne.com, Michelle Malkin’s site, and others. See what they say to each other when they think they aren’t being watched. The palpable hatred and violent fantasies will make you sick, but you need to know what they want, and you need to keep seeing it in their own words. It’s one thing to say “we read them so you don’t have to” but it’s entirely another to make you all see that you do, in fact, need to. In a few days after this thread is dead, some conservatives will post here claiming that it’s all projection and fantasy, just like they did with John’s post last week. None of that will change a thing. If you’ve ever wondered why I dump shit all over the sorry-assed conservatrolls we have here, it’s because there is no fundamental difference between them and the people quoted above. Their world is the world that our little trolls would make, and people such as they deserve only contempt.

Lest you or anyone accuse me of nitpicking, I am specifically calling out the commenters on those sites. But I’ll note that there’s a reason that racists and bigots frequent sites like Michelle Malkin’s site (which is actually pretty ironic) and Freeperland and Fox.

If you love this country, you need to know and you need to fight for it. If you want a better future for your children, you need to know and you need to fight for it.

Well said. This is why I post these excerpts; not because I enjoy reading this ugly garbage, but because it needs to be exposed. One reason why it’s gotten so incredibly horrifying to read comments at right wing sites is because nobody holds these people accountable. In some cases, site owners are just tolerating this sickening racial hatred, but in many others they’re absolutely doing their best to incite it.

Meanwhile, I received at least a dozen tweets and emails from right wingers claiming that I had faked the post, because they couldn’t see any comments on that Fox News thread.

I know it won’t make even a tiny dent in the right’s armor of denial, but here are a couple of screenshots showing that yes … there are comments for that article. Since the Fox News site uses Javascript to display the comments, it’s possible that people who can’t see them are using incompatible browsers or some sort of extension that’s blocking them.

Sony Profiteering Off Whitney Houston’s Death

Think Progress

Stay classy, Sony. According to the Guardian, after Whitney Houston’s death, her label raised the price of at least one of her albums to take advantage of the immediate spike in sales:

The music giant is understood to have lifted the wholesale price of Houston’s greatest hits album, The Ultimate Collection, at about 4am California time on Sunday. This meant that the iTunes retail price of the album automatically increased from £4.99 to £7.99. Houston’s The Ultimate Collection, originally released in 1997, was the second top-selling album on iTunes on Monday morning. Apple returned the album to its original price late on Sunday.

It seems like it ought to have been enough for Sony to privately enjoy the revitalization of an album from its back catalogue: Houston was years away from her peak selling potential at the time of her death, which sent The Ultimate Collection to the top of the iTunes charts. A move like this may be strategic from a business perspective, but it looks impressively greedy. Given how hard the content industry is pushing to sell the public on the idea that they’re only acting in the best interests of creators in pushing for stronger copyright protections, profiting off a dead artist is decidedly off-message.

Oh, for Fox sake! Wingnuts disgrace Whitney Houston’s [Death] with massive N-bombing

Image Hosting by PictureTrail.com

As much as I hate the content of what I’m about to report here (via Daily Kos) this story must be exposed.  Warning, these people hate Blacks and show it in every possible way…

Daily Kos - MinistryOfTruth

I said it before, I’ll say it again, when America elected a black man as President, it broke the brains of the racist people.

Case in point, Fox News. They pander to an increasingly openly racist and bigoted base. They can’t help but be blatantly racist after 40 years of Southern Strategy social conditioning, even if it means showing zero respect to the recently deceased. Take this as a disgusting example.

Singer Whitney Houston Dies at 48 | Fox News. There are almost 5000 comments posted in the thread — these are from the first few pages. Notice that the racist bastards deliberately misspell their slurs or insert random spaces, so they aren’t caught by word filters. <><><><><><><>

At this point, they don’t even try to hide it anymore. This is who they are. Openly racist, totally out of touch with the majority of America, and their number one policy seems to be that if you are not a dittohead just like them, then they fucking hate you.

In short, they hate you. Period. They masquerade their bullshit in the words of Jesus and the all-knowing free market, but it is transparent what motivates them. Not love for their fellow man, not love for their fellow citizen, not love for country- what motivates them is hate for the other.

You.

They fucking hate you. They want you, and everyone who speaks for you, and every institution that represents your values, whether it be Planned Parenthood or food banks or ACORN- you name it. They want it destroyed.

I just do not understand why more people do not recognize this. The Republicans have declared total war on America, and people are responding like this is politics as usual.

They have declared war on the America that doesn’t fit in with what Rush Limbaugh tells them, but more than anything they have declared war on sanity. Nothing says that this is not politics like usual the way the revolting behavior detailed above does.

And they all watch the same news channel. Consistently the least informed people in America. Consistently the most hatefully blind, willfully ignorant, easily deceived people you could find. Not everyone who watches Fox News is racist, but racists sure do feel comfortable watching Fox News.

At this point, the GOP base is just to the left of Fred Phelps and his clowns, and yet the wingnuts just don’t get it. It’s not your candidates, Mitch Daniels or Chris Christie can’t save you. It’s you, Republicans.   The problem is you.

Whitney Houston Dead: Singer Dies At 48

The Huffington Post

Whitney Houston is dead at 48 years old.

The superstar singer and actress’s publicist, Kristin Foster, broke the news of Houston’s passing to the AP. She was found and pronounced dead at the Beverly Hills Hilton on Saturday afternoon; thus far, no cause of death has been revealed. In recent years, she struggled with drug abuse.

Her self-titled debut album, released in 1985, sold 25 million copies worldwide. In total, she released seven albums and three film soundtracks; a winner of six Grammys, Houston sold over 200 million albums and singles worldwide. She earned 30 Billboard Awards, 22 American Music Awards and two Emmy Awards.

Words cannot describe the shock and disbelief millions of Whitney fans must have felt when they heard the news that Whitney Houston was dead.

My heart goes out to Whitney and Bobby’s daughter as well as Whitney’s mother and the entire Houston family.

One of my favorite moments in the life and career of Miss Whitney Houston:

Her 911 Tribute:

Finally…The Greatest Love Of All

Whitney, you were loved.  Sleep in peace young lady.
