Fox News: Obama Proposed ‘Free’ Preschool To Toddlers So They Can Vote For Him ‘In The Future’

No, TFC readers, the heading is not a misprint. It merely shows the unmitigated stupidity of  Fox News Network and its contributors.

In his State of the Union address, President Obama made the case for universal early childhood education — an idea that isn’t sitting well with conservatives.

On Friday, Fox Business host Stuart Varney and Fox News host Steve Doocy attacked preschool access as a government handout intended to extend “literally, the nanny state.” Varney echoed an argument used by former presidential candidate Mitt Romney that Obama won the election by giving “gifts” to women and minorities. Even though Obama cannot run for office a third time, the host warned the president is using preschool to entice a whole new generation of toddlers to support him when they’re eligible in 15 years:

VARNEY: Look what the president is doing here, it’s a repeat performance of his campaign, which is you raise taxes on the rich and you offer all kinds of free stuff to people who will vote for you in the future. Free preschool education for 4-year-olds, it’s free, here it is. Hand out the goodies.

In fact, preschool substantially reduces the likelihood that a child will later drop out of high school, become a teen parent, or be arrested for a violent crime. Studies have determined universal preschool programs generate roughly $7 in savings per child and increases human capital.

Varney and Doocy are hardly the only conservatives suspicious of preschool. Sen. Rick Santorum (R-PA) has called for ending childhood education programs because they“indoctrinate” children to make them dependent on government at an early age.

Other “gifts” Obama has been accused of using to influence voters are Obamacare, his DREAM directive, and partial college loan forgiveness.

Fox News Goes Full Metal Tin Foil Hat with Claim Obama Blackmailed Petraeus

Apparently Fox Noise (Fox News) has doubled down with their conspiracy theories about President Obama and their Benghazi fantasies in which they envision an impeached POTUS by dismissing the accusations about their “media bubble” and other such descriptions by  mainstream media types.

These people will not give up until President Obama is out of office. Heck, even when his next four years have been completed, they will continue to try to discredit his record in perpetuum…

Fox News has taken their conspiracy claims for impeachment to new crazy places by claiming that Obama blackmailed Petraeus in order cover up Benghazi.

Steve Doocy said, ‘Clinton and Petraeus both have got to testify. That’s just all there is. Otherwise the investigation would not be an investigation. It would not be complete.  Also, we told you earlier that Bill Kristol had sources in the testimony that Petraeus gave on September fourteenth, and apparently Mr. Petraeus said, do you want the party line, or do you want the real truth…To some it does look like you know, was he going along? Was he doing the what’s in the best interests of national security, or was he, and some feel this, was he being blackmailed by the White House to toe the company line? Those are the things that can only be found out if you ask him directly.”

This has all the hallmarks of a Fox News conspiracy theory. Message delivered by the morning propaganda team at Fox and Friends? Check. The use of the phrases to some it does look like, and some feel this? Check. The absolute absence of any facts? Check. Anonymous sources from fellow News Corp employees? Check.

In case it wasn’t obvious where this is going, Rush Limbaugh explicitly stated it yesterday on his radio show, “And this Benghazi story, it finally has legs, lots of legs. Have you seen ‘em in Tampa? Broadbeam, Broadwell, whatever her name is. You know, the one good thing, folks, about all of this is that a sex scandal might make some people finally hear about Benghazi, because the media is all over this. It is a sex story that they just can’t ignore. And even the lowest of the low-information voters might finally hear about what happened in Benghazi because of this. That’s why I said, you know, words and policy, we kind of exhausted it. We’re just gonna have to wait for events to overtake the regime.”

The right is hoping that the sex scandal will hook the American people, and then they will be outraged when they learn about Benghazi.

The right is still clinging on their delusion that they can take Obama down if the American people learn the “truth” about Obama. To the absolute surprise of no one, the far right has responded to Obama’s reelection by redoubling their efforts to destroy him. The right wing media is trying to invent a connection between Petraeus and Benghazi because they still believe that Benghazi is their golden ticket to Obama impeachment.

Impeachment is what this is all about. The right wing media is trying to string together enough random facts to give the House Republicans “cause” for impeachment. This Petraeus/Benghazi/Obama conspiracy theory is the deepest manifestation yet of the right’s collective mental illness over the defeat of Mitt Romney.

These people really believed that the polls were skewed, and that they were going to win. They are dreaming of impeachment, because for them the election isn’t over. They are still looking for a way to win.

They have not learned a thing from the 2012 election.

The only that has changed after Obama’s election is that the right is even more obsessed with the destruction of President Obama.

Fox News and Matt Drudge turn ‘pirate’ gag into international incident

Anything Fox News or Drudge Report can find to negatively portray President Obama, they will jump on it and repeat it over and over again.

However, there’s just one problem…

If you were watching Fox News or reading The Drudge Report on Thursday morning, you might mistakenly believe that President Barack Obama blew off the prime minister of Israel this week to chat up a colorfully costumed man who looks more like “Captain Morgan” than any government leader.

“TOO BUSY FOR ISRAEL,” a “Fox & Friends” kicker headline read in all-caps, stamped below a photo of Obama sitting next to man dressed like a pirate. “PRESIDENT FINDS TIME FOR PIRATE, LETTERMAN.” Hosts Brian Kilmeade and Steve Doocy piled on, attributing the photo to “International Talk Like A Pirate Day,” an unofficial holiday marked every year on Sept. 19.

Co-host Gretchen Carlson added: “I’m going to have to see more on that story because it doesn’t totally seem to gel.” Still, the show went on, with the “Fox & Friends” production team repeatedly displaying the pirate photo and even cuing up pirate music. Doocy later said that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu was “getting the Clint Eastwood treatment” from Obama, and showed a photo of the Israeli president cross-cut with an image of an empty chair.

Matt Drudge, the conservative media aggregator behind The Drudge Report, took the bait. “BUT NO TIME FOR NETANYAHU…” a headline on his popular conservative website declared, according to a record of the post captured by liberal watchdog group Media Matters for America.

It didn’t take long for savvy web users to point out that the pirate photo not is new. It turns out the image was taken as part of a Twitter joke for the White House Correspondents Association dinner, which typically features a night of political comedy and a satirical speech by the president. It has been available online since May 2009.

Reacting to the obvious blunder, a Twitter account for “Fox & Friends” corrected the repeat error. “The picture we aired this morning of the President & the pirate was from 2009,” they explained. Drudge, however, did not offer a correction.

Fox News host admits he ‘did some paraphrasing’ by misquoting Obama

Fox News’ on air personalities are really arrogant.  Instead of an outright apology for adding words to a comment made by President Obama, which changed the entire meaning of his phrase, Steve Doocy, a Fox & Friends host gives more of a “clarification” than an apology…

A Fox News host on Tuesday stopped short of apologizing after he “did some paraphrasing” and misquoted President Barack Obama.

During an interview last week with presumptive Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney, host Steve Doocy quoted Obama as saying, “Unlike some people, I wasn’t born with a silver spoon in my mouth.”

But the president never said the words “unlike some people,” which Doocy suggested was part of an attack on Romney.

Fox News promised on Monday that Doocy would “clarify” the remarks.

“When I was interviewing Gov. Romney on this show, I asked him about it,” Doocy said during Tuesday morning’s show. “However, I did some paraphrasing that seemed to misquote the president.”

“So to be clear, the president’s exact quote was, ‘I wasn’t born with a silver spoon in my mouth.’ And I hope that clears up any confusion,” he added without noting what was incorrect about his original quote.

Doocy’s clarification came after Comedy Central host Stephen Colbert mocked the Fox News host on Monday night.

“So, he didn’t say ‘Unlike some people,’ unlike some people,” Colbert explained. “But folks, that does not mean it was poor journalism. Doocy was practicing journalism plus, by quoting the subtext. It works like this: ‘I don’t give out handjobs out in the bus station……unlike some people.’”

“So excellent reporting, Steve Doocy, and I know good reporting. I am an independent newsman. Not some smug, self-satisfied brown-noser toting for the Republican establishment…..Unlike some people.”

Did Fox News Fabricate An Obama Quote?

In a recent campaign-trail speech, President Obama delivered a line that was widely construed as a jab at Mitt Romney. But whether it was a direct jab at Romney was at least arguable until a Fox News host pumped it up with three additional words that Obama never said.

“Somebody gave me an education,” the President said last Wednesday in a Elyria, Ohio speech, discussing equality of opportunity. “I wasn’t born with a silver spoon in my mouth. Michelle wasn’t. But somebody gave us a chance — just like these folks up here are looking for a chance.”

The “silver spoon” comment in the context of the speech seemed to be a swipe against Romney, whose father George Romney was the top executive of a major car company and a former governor of Michigan. But the President was able to maintain plausible deniability until Steve Doocy of Fox News came along. While interviewing Romney on live TV Thursday, Doocy quoted Obama as saying, “Unlike some people, I wasn’t born with a silver spoon in my mouth.”

But Obama never prefaced his statement with the words “unlike some people,” as evident in thevideo of the speech (9:22 minute mark). The words do not appear in the official transcript either.

Regardless, the unspoken words were imputed to Obama in a Washington Post article, a New York Post editorial and conservative blogs after Doocy’s segment.

White House spokesman Jay Carney said the remark had nothing to do with Romney. Nor is the phrase new: Obama used the words “silver spoon” in a similar context during a March 2009 speech about the importance of education and opportunity.

A Fox News spokesperson did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

Geraldo Rivera: Hoodie ‘allowed’ Zimmerman to kill Martin

Geraldo should just pack it in, he’s quickly becoming irrelevant, so a statement like this gives him an additional “fifteen minutes”…

Fox News host Geraldo Rivera thinks he knows who or what is to blame for the slaying of 17-year-old Trayvon Martin: the hoodie did it.

Appearing on Fox News early Friday morning, Rivera conceded that George Zimmerman, the neighborhood watch captain who shot Martin, should be investigated, but he urged black and Latino parents to not allow their children to wear hooded sweatshirts.

“I think the hoodie is as much responsible for Trayvon Martin’s death as George Zimmerman was,” the host ranted. “You have to recognize that this whole stylizing yourself as a gangsta — you’re going to be a gangsta wannabe, well people are going to perceive you as a menace. That’s what happens. It is an instant, reflexive action.”

Rivera compared the situation to NPR firing Fox News contributor Juan Williams for saying he was scared of Muslims at the airport because of the way they dressed.

“That’s an automatic reflex,” Rivera explained. “When you see a black or Latino youngster, particularly on the street, you walk to the other side of the street. You try to avoid that confrontation. Trayvon Martin, God bless him. He’s an innocent kid, a wonderful kid, a box of Skittles in his hand, he didn’t deserve to die, but I’ll bet you money if he didn’t have that hoodie on, that nutty neighborhood watch guy wouldn’t have responded in that violent and aggressive way.”

Fox & Friends co-host Steve Doocy noted that New Yorkers on Wednesday had held a “Million Hoodie March” in support of Martin.

“You cannot rehabilitate the hoodie,” Rivera insisted. “I understand that the reaction might be overzealous or even irrational in some extent. You are not going to rehabilitate the hoodie. Stop wearing it!”

“There are some things that are almost inevitable. I’m not suggesting that Trayvon Martin had any kind of weapon or anything. He wore an outfit that allowed someone to respond in this irrational, overzealous way. And if he had been dressed more appropriately — I think unless it is raining out or you are at a track meet, leave the hoodie home.” [Edit: Doh! It was raining outside!]

“Perception is reality,” guest co-host Juliet Huddy agreed.

In fact, Zimmerman told the 911 dispatcher that it was raining as he was pursuing Martin.

“This guy looks like he’s up to no good or he’s on drugs or something,” the neighborhood watch enthusiast said. “It’s raining and he’s just walking around, looking about. … These assholes always get away.”

Fox And Friends Pretty Sure The Labor Department Is ‘Cooking The Books’ On Jobs Numbers | ThinkProgress

On Friday, ThinkProgress noted that Fox News appeared to be systematically ignoring the strong jobs report that day, perhaps in an effort to avoid giving President Obama any credit. The network mentioned the jobs numbers half as often as some of their competitors, and buried the big news on their website, but on Fox and Friends today, the network went a step further.

Hosts Eric Bolling, Steve Doocy, and Gretchen Carlson went beyond merely downplaying the numbers to contriving a conspiracy theory to explain them away:

BOLLING: So are they playing around with the numbers? Look, it’s the Bureau of Labor Statistics, it’s supposed to be non-partisan, but that’s the Department of Labor. Hilda Solis heads the Department of Labor, Hilda Solis works directly to Obama. I’m — you know.

DOOCY: Are you saying they’re cooking the books?

BOLLING: I’m saying there’s room for error. There’s room — when you’re talking about 4 million people, how do you know?

DOOCY: How do you know?

CARLSON: I don’t think anyone should surprised that in an election year — [...]So it’s interpretation, I think is the way in which we’d describe it.

If it weren’t improper to psychologically analyse strangers, one might think the Fox hosts are displaying a textbook example of cogitative dissonance here, a psychological phenomena in which people who hold on strong belief about something invent (sometimes far fetched) explanations for new evidence that conflicts with their existing views. Obama is bad for the economy, the jobs numbers show the economy is doing better, so there must be something wrong with the jobs numbers. Needless to say, this is hardly the behavior one expects from fair and balanced journalists Fox hosts claim to be.

Meanwhile, some conservatives have developed a more sophisticated excuse for the jobs report, saying the drop in unemployment rate is only due to decreasing participation in the jobs market. Nobel prize-winning economist Paul Krugman and others have refuted this claim.

Fox And Friends: Spongebob Squarepants Is ‘Pushing A Global Warming Agenda’

The Fox and Friends crew spent yesterday morning working tirelessly to reveal the anti-American cultural agenda of the Obama administration. After re-hashing President Obama’s mythical war on Easter, hosts Gretchen Carlson, Steve Doocy, and David Briggs set their sights on one of Obama’s most devious allies: Nickelodeon’s Spongebob Squarepants.

In July, the Department of Education invited children from Washington, DC to its “Let’s Read! Let’s Move!” series in which they were “treated to free books” including one from Nickelodeon’s “The Big Green Help” series entitled “Spongebob Goes Green! An Earth-Friendly Adventure.” Carlson saw fit to point out that the books “blamed man for global warming, but they did not tell kids that that is actually a disputed fact. Oops!” Doocy determined, “Clearly, Nickelodeon is pushing a global warming agenda”:

DOOCY: The Department of Education invited a bunch of DC kids in and they had this festivity and they handed out these particular Nickelodeon books where clearly Nickelodeon is pushing a global warming agenda. While there’s no disputing the fact that the Earth is getting a little warmer, the big question is is it man-made or is it just one of those gigantic, climactic phases we’re going – for a while we’re cold then we get warmer and then we get colder, warmer, which one is it? There’s science on both sides, there a lot of scientists who say it’s this, others who say its that.

BRIGGS: Right. It’s unproven science and again, this is public education system that we all pay our tax dollars for. And the Spongebob book says that its a man-made problem that requires human intervention.

DOOCY: Right, they’re presenting it as fact.

Briggs went on to lament that the United States is “17th in the world in science” but “we’re forcing an issue that is not yet proven.”

The only sides in the climate science “debate” are the side offering the facts and the side intent on ignoring them. As scientists have repeatedly found, human activity is directly linked toclimate change and it will certainly require a change in energy policy to address it. Still, while it is somewhat disconcerting to know a cartoon children’s book — or a kid show host — is more familiar with fact than Fox News hosts, it is not entirely surprising.

Trump: ‘I Am The Least Racist Person There Is’ Because A Black Guy Won The Apprentice Six Years Ago

Potential presidential candidate Donald Trump has often found himself in hot water for making racially-tinged comments — saying in the span of a single press conference, for example, that President Obama should “get off his basketball court” and that a black reporter must be a “big Obama fan.” Yet, Trump insists he has a “great relationship with the blacks.” Responding to accusations of racism this morning on Fox & Friends, Trump said he is the “least racist person there is,” citing the fact that an African-American man won The Apprentice once as proof:

TRUMP: Well, you know, when it comes to racism and racists, I am the least racist person there is. And I think most people who know me would tell you that. I am the least racist, I’ve had great relationships. In fact, Randal Pinkett won, as you know, on The Apprentice a little while ago, a couple of years ago. And Randall’s been outstanding in every way. So I am the least racist person.

Indeed, Pinkett won The Apprentice six years ago in December 2005. Trump also pointed to the “tremendous” job rapper Lil Jon is doing on the current season of Celebrity Apprentice.

Pinkett recently said that he thought Trump’s rumored presidential campaign was “another publicity stunt and perhaps a wise and a shrewd one as the Celebrity Apprentice season is rolling around. But I have to say, in recent months, he is really beginning to sound like he’s serious,” Pinkett added, without offering an endorsement of Trump.

Meanwhile, Fox host Steve Doocy mentioned ThinkProgress’ successful campaign to have Groupon and other companies pull advertisements from The Apprentice. Trump said he was unconcerned about the loss, claiming there are “30 other” companies that would want to replace them.
