Author, radio, and TV personality Glenn Beck a...

The Huffington Post

Glenn Beck called Hurricane Irene a “blessing” on his Friday radio show, saying it would teach people to be prepared for disasters.

As the hurricane barreled towards the East Coast, Beck said that it would be a valuable lesson for people who have not heeded his warnings. He said he has long told his followers to stock up in case of “global disruption in food.” He said that, even though people had mocked him for it, disaster preparedness was key to him.

“If you’ve waited [until now], this hurricane is a blessing,” he said. “It is God reminding you, as was the earthquake last week…you’re not in control.”

Al Sharpton Officially Named MSNBC Host Of ‘PoliticsNation’

Al Sharpton

Image by Ewils Photo via Flickr

This is surely good news for the Rev. Al.   I, personally thought that the previous host in that time slot,  Cenk Uygur was doing a fine job.

We’ll see how long Reverend Al Sharpton lasts in his new MSNBC role.  Here’s wishing him well.

Huffington Post

Al Sharpton has been officially named the host of the 6 PM hour on MSNBC. The network announced Tuesday that Sharpton will host “PoliticsNation” on weeknights starting August 29.

Sharpton has been the de facto host of the hour for many weeks, but no official announcement had been made until Tuesday. He replaced Cenk Uygur as the all-but-official 6 PM host after Uygur’s acrimonious exit from MSNBC in July.

The choice of Sharpton to host the hour has been marked by some controversy. MSNBC was criticized for not hiring a black journalist as a host, and there were charges that Sharpton’s close ties to Comcast and the Obama White House helped him get the role. For his part, Sharpton dimissed these concerns, saying he was becoming the host because of his career in activism.

“I am very happy and honored to join the MSNBC team as we collectively try to get America to ’Lean Forward,’” Sharpton said in a statement. “It is a natural extension of my life work and growth. We all learn from our pain and stand up from our stumbling and one must either learn to lean forward or fall backwards. I’m glad they have given me the opportunity to continue my forward lean.”

Ann Coulter: ‘Can We Get The Ad To Find Obama’s Cocaine Dealer?’ (VIDEO)

This woman is insane…

The Huffington Post

Ann Coulter called for someone to put out an ad to find President Obama’s “cocaine dealer” during an appearance on Sunday’s “Fox and Friends.”

Coulter’s comment came as she was opining that the media have given Republican presidential candidates a harder time than Obama ever got when he ran in the 2008 election. She noted that someone has already taken an ad out asking, “have you had sex with Rick Perry?”

“Can we get the ad to find, you know, Obama’s cocaine dealer now that he’s two years into his presidency?” Coulter asked, causing one of the “Fox and Friends” hosts to snort with laughter.

Obama, of course, famously admitted to using “a little blow” during his youth in his first memoir, “Dreams From My Father.” The relative lack of controversy surrounding that and other drug revelations was taken as a sign that drug use had lost some of its potency as a campaign issue.

Rachel Maddow Dings Media, GOP For Obama Vacation Critique

Rachel Maddow points out yet another case of ODS (Obama Derangement Syndrome.)

Huffington Post

A frustrated Rachel Maddow called out Republicans for their hypocrisy surrounding President Obama’s vacation–and the media for allowing the hypocrisy to go unchecked.

Obama headed to Martha’s Vineyard on Thursday for his annual summer vacation–with Republican catcalls trailing him every step of the way. Maddow pointed to a statement from the Massachusetts Republican Party which sarcastically “welcomed” Obama to the state, and which said that Aerosmith wanted its tour bus back (a reference to his recent swing through the Midwest.)

This got Maddow riled up. She pointed out that, not only was Obama’s bus bought by the Secret Service, there will also be an identical one for the eventual GOP presidential nominee. She predicted that the jibes about the bus would end once a Republican was on one.

Moreover, Maddow noted that Obama has taken a lot less vacation at this point in his presidency than either President Bush or Reagan had in theirs. Then, she criticized one of her favorite targets–the so-called “Beltway media“–for, in her view falling down on the job.

“Hypocrisy, thy name is Thursday,” she said. “…[But] is it the job of the Beltway press to just write the criticism down and forward it to the American people without comment as if that counts as news? Or could maybe some context about the bare hypocrisy help?”

David Letterman Death Threat: Jihadist Site Calls For Host’s Killing

Huffington Post

A jihadist website has issued a death threat against David Letterman, according to Entertainment Weekly.

The threat was issued after Letterman referenced Ilyas Kashmiri, an al Qaeda leader killed in a drone strike in Pakistan in June, on his late night show. Letterman apparently joked about Kashmiri’s death, something that enraged a poster on the website.

According to the SITE Intelligence Group, the user called for someone to “cut the tongue of this lowly Jew and shut it forever.”

Letterman, who is not Jewish, is not the first comic to receive death threats. In 2010, the creators of “South Park” were threatened after they depicted Muhammad in a bear suit.

It’s also not the first time Letterman has been a criminal target. He famously confessed to an extramarital affair after a CBS News staffer threatened to blackmail him in 2009.

CNN’s Don Lemon and Rand Paul Clash Over The Tea Party’s Role In The Debt Crisis- July 30, 2011

The Huffington Post

CNN’s Don Lemon had a very testy exchange with Sen. Rand Paul about the debt ceiling drama on Saturday night.

As the House and Senate again failed to reach an agreement on how to raise the debt ceiling, Paul appeared on CNN to explain the Tea Party position on the talks. Lemon started off the interview by asking him to chat “without talking points.” He also began aggressively trying to get Paul to answer his questions, asking him repeatedly how he had voted on the so-called “Cut, Cap and Balance” bill from the House.

Lemon then wondered whether Paul’s insistence on measures like a balanced budget amendment were isolating him.

“The Democrats have made many concessions when it comes to what’s going on here, and even the Tea Party position it appears to most people remains rigid,” Lemon said. “The question is, have you made your point? And by continuing to go on with this, do you feel like you’re overreaching and that you’re going to lose the clout?”

Paul started talking about how he didn’t want to add any more debt to the country’s finances. Lemon cut him off. “Hang on, hang on,” he said. “Can we just stick to that–we’re going to get to that–”

“Let me finish my thought,” Paul said.

“Hold on, please, be respectful here,” Lemon responded. “I’m trying to answer your question, you’ve interrupted my answer,” Paul said.”If you answer the question, I’ll give you plenty of time,” Lemon said.

James Murdoch Accused Of Misleading Parliament Over Phone Hacking

Is anyone surprised at this new “revelation”?

Huffington Post

James Murdoch was accused on Thursday of misleading Parliament about his knowledge of phone hacking at the News of the World by the paper’s former editor and top lawyer.

Colin Myler, the former editor, and Tom Crone, the former lawyer, issued a statement on Thursday contradicting one of Murdoch’s key claims in histestimony before Parliament on Tuesday: that he had signed off on huge payments to footballer Gordon Taylor without knowing why he was doing so.

Murdoch said that his lawyers had simply advised him that News Corp. was likely to lose if the Taylor lawsuit—which accused the paper of hacking his phone—went to court, and that he had authorized the company to pay Taylor hundreds of thousands of pounds as a way to end the suit, even though he did not know why, exactly, News Corp. was in such a compromised position.

Fox News Host Eric Bolling’s Emotional Defense Of 9/11 Omission: ‘Thank You, Liberals, For Reminding Me How Petty You Can Be’ (VIDEO)

Since Glenn Beck left, this guy is the biggest clown on Fox News…

Huffington Post

Fox News’ Eric Bolling delivered an angry, emotional response to the attention he received for mistakenly saying there had been no domestic terror attacks during President Bush’s term.

Since the statement–which Bolling made on Wednesday’s episode of “The Five”–omitted 9/11, Bolling drew some ridicule. On Thursday’s episode, he addressed his critics directly, with his voice shaking. Bolling said that “obviously” he had meant that there were no domestic terror attacks in the aftermath of 9/11, but that the “radical liberal left pounced on us and me” instead of letting the statement go.

He then assured people that he remembered 9/11 all too well.

“I happened to be standing there watching in true terror as radical Islamists slammed planes into the towers that morning,” Bolling said. “I remember the towers collapsing, killing 3,000, including 16 of my closest friends, and I really remember trying to comfort the kids of my friends at their memorial services. I’ll never forget 9/11, but thank you liberals for reminding me how petty you can be.”

Bill Maher Compares Casey Anthony Verdict To Republican Thinking (VIDEO)

When I saw this segment of Bill Maher’s New Rules, I wanted to post it on this blog.  The segment didn’t make it to You Tube until yesterday.

Huffington Post

No one will ever accuse “Real Time” host Bill Maher of not saying what he really thinks.

On his Friday night show, he openly equated the Casey Anthony verdict with Republican policy — with Casey Anthony as Republican politicans and voters as the jury, reports The Daily Caller.

“And before you accuse me of equating the Casey Anthony verdict with Republican thinking — save your breath, I am. I’m equating them. If you’re a working-class American who still votes Republican then you don’t get to bitch about that verdict,” said Maher.

Maher went on to explain his assertion:

[Half of American voters] say ‘I’m with the party that cuts all these programs for real people, for the 99 percent. Planned Parenthood, environmental protection, college, health care, infrastructure, but holds the line on private jets.’ Voting for them is as stupid as voting not guilty for the mom who lost her baby for a month and went looking at a wet t-shirt contest.

The HBO host wrapped up his monologue saying:

We’re now being told that multinational corporations bring home their current overseas profits of $1.4 trillion, they’ll only be taxed five percent on it because we’re told it will create jobs. It won’t. It didn’t, just like the last time we tried it in 2004. Companies took the savings and paid it out to themselves in dividends. Yes, Republican base, you are just like that jury. It’s pathetically clear who’s killing the middle class but you keep letting them get away with murder.

Ann Coulter Calls Princess Diana ‘Anorexic, Bulimic Narcissist’ (VIDEO)

Talk about Republicans and their uncanny ability to project their own worst faults on others, Ann Coulter has mastered the technique…

Huffington Post

Ann Coulter has some harsh words for the late Princess Diana.

The conservative commentator raised some eyebrows in a new interview with “The Insider” co-host Kevin Frazier.

“I find it a little baffling when Americans get so gaga-eyed over a princess. In particular Lady Di, who was just this anorexic, bulimic narcissist,” Coulter said.

Coulter, who was promoting her new book “Demonic: How The Liberal Mob Is Endangering America”, has professed contempt for Diana and the Royal Family before.

In April, Coulter appeared on “The O’Reilly Factor” to call the late princess a “nitwit hussy” and said of the Royal Wedding: “It’s totally embarrassing Americans cared about that.”

She also said she was specifically going to be on a plane to France so she wouldn’t have to watch William and Kate’s nuptials.

Coulter did admit on her “Fox News” appearance that she looked up Kate Middleton and said, “She seems like a lovely woman, I feel sorry for the life she’s signed on to.”

Princess Diana was known not just for her royal title, but for being the “People’s Princess.” It was her philanthropy working to raise AIDS awareness and working towards a ban on landmines that won her the respect and admiration of many.See Video here…
