That looks about right…

gop-benghazi-rohrshack

John Cole

This John Liming piece which fits in perfectly with the toon above.

Some of the far-to-the-rightist “We Hate Obama” crowd do not seem to be able let loose of their “Benghazi” conspiracy.

I keep reading about it on some of what I think of as the scummier of the Internet “Rags” – and to be quite honest – to be quite frank – it is getting a little boring listening to some of them.

But I guess they have nothing better to do and maybe that conspiracy thing is just about the upper reach of intellect for some of them – who knows?  Who really cares?  Righties do not run much of anything these days besides their mouths – so what difference does it make what some of them might think about – “Benghazi?” – or anything else for that matter?

Some of them might be “legends in their own minds” and some of them might be the “cat’s meow” to some of their little cadre of faithful hangers-on – but I am thinking their influence is very limited these days because America has bigger fish to fry than listening to a pack of fabrications and lies designed – obviously and apparently – my opinion here, folks – for some political agenda – a political agenda – by the way – which is going absolutely – nowhere!

Enough time wasted on The Great American Crap Factory of the Radical Right.  I am through trying to reason with them or to argue with them or to explain anything to them.  I find that far too many of their – “minds” – for want of a better word – are closed as tightly as any steel trap could ever shut and it is absolutely a waste of time talking to them or with them about anything – anything!  They seem to know it all and nobody is going to tell them any different from what they think they know and that is that!

The Right’s Irrational Hate

Now that Republicans have been soundly beaten at the federal and state levels, and President Obama has won a decisive second term, will the right allow compromise and reason to enter the political process?

Don’t count on it.

They’re filled with pure irrational hate. There’s no reasoning with them. There’s no…hell, let me just quote Kyle Reese from the film Terminator.

Listen, and understand. That terminator is out there. It can’t be bargained with. It can’t be reasoned with. It doesn’t feel pity, or remorse, or fear. And it absolutely will not stop, ever, until you are dead.

Same thing.

Right-Wing Insanity Illustrated – Slideshow No. 31

Carmen is one of my favorite opera’s so Mario Piperni’s insertion of the famous operatic aria is a bonus.

However, the real story is Piperni’s political illustrations, which I have used a lot on this blog.   He has the GOP pegged to a tee and his illustrations are spot on.  I love this guy’s work.  His commentaries are really good as well.

What do you get when you combine Nana Mouskouri, one of my favorite operas (Bizet’s Carmen) and a few of my latest illustrations?

This, of course.

All In Favor Of Public Hangings, Say “Aye”

As usual Mario Piperni sees things more clearly and logically than the Republicans he draws in his illustrations.   He writes about their weird and sometimes crazy antics and depicts it perfectly with his drawings.

There’s no secret that I am a die-hard Piperni fan.  Here’s yet another example…

Mario Piperni

From the compassionate conservative wing of the Republican party, Rep. Larry Pittman of North Carolina  speaks out .

“We need to make the death penalty a real deterrent again by actually carrying it out. Every appeal that can be made should have to be made at one time, not in a serial manner,” Pittman wrote in the email. “If murderers (and I would include abortionists, rapists, and kidnappers, as well) are actually executed, it will at least have the deterrent effect upon them. For my money, we should go back to public hangings, which would be more of a deterrent to others, as well.”

How long before execution by guillotine for liberals and atheists is proposed by Republicans?

The surprise or concern is not that wingnut politicians say stuff like this. Republicans have been running on CRAZY for a while now. No, the real worry should be that enough Americans voted for this guy to get him elected.

The Republican Primary – The Illustrated Edition

Hats off to Mario Piperni’s creativity and insight into the GOP political quackery machine…

Mario Piperni

While you were munching away on Thanksgiving leftovers, I was putting together this little video and thinking of how Dems could not have done a better job of picking out a wackier bunch of political opponents than this gang of eight dysfunctional wingnuts.  OK, Huntsman is only half a wingnut but a wingnut nonetheless.

Enjoy…and do yourself a favor and stay away from the stores if you can. I hear it’s not pretty out there.

(You can watch the video in HD and full-screen on youTube if you prefer.)

Mario Piperni: A Gay Hypocrite Finds His Way (Sort Of)

This information about Ken Mehlman being gay was well known to most progressives since 2004 and maybe earlier.  I believe it was Bill Maher and many bloggers who  knew this clown was gay a few years ago.

His egregious acts against gays in the form of planning and supporting anti-gay legislation and his treatment minorities at voting polls  and the phone jamming scandal is simply despicable, in my view.  I am most definitely not, nor will I ever be a fan of such an evil, manipulative person.

Mario Piperni

Well, well.

Ken Mehlman, President Bush’s campaign manager in 2004 and a former chairman of the Republican National Committee, has told family and associates that he is gay. [...]

Mehlman is the most powerful Republican in history to identify as gay.

Because his tenure as RNC chairman and his time at the center of the Bush political machine coincided with the Republican Party’s attempts to exploit anti-gay prejudices and cement the allegiance of social conservatives, his declaration to the world is at once a personal act and an act of political speech.

“I wish I was where I am today 20 years ago. The process of not being able to say who I am in public life was very difficult. No one else knew this except me. My family didn’t know. My friends didn’t know. Anyone who watched me knew I was a guy who was clearly uncomfortable with the topic,” he said.

I can only imagine what it is like to feel compelled to have to hide one’s sexual orientation. It can’t be pretty. Even uglier, I would think, is being gay and a high ranking member of a political party that actively pursued (and still does) an anti-gay agenda.

Mehlman said at the time that he could not, as an individual Republican, go against the party consensus. He was aware that Karl Rove, President Bush’s chief strategic adviser, had been working with Republicans to make sure that anti-gay initiatives and referenda would appear on November ballots in 2004 and 2006 to help Republicans.
Mehlman acknowledges that if he had publicly declared his sexuality sooner, he might have played a role in keeping the party from pushing an anti-gay agenda.

“It’s a legitimate question and one I understand,” Mehlman said. “I can’t change the fact that I wasn’t in this place personally when I was in politics, and I genuinely regret that. It was very hard, personally.” He asks of those who doubt his sincerity: “If they can’t offer support, at least offer understanding.”

The truth is that if Mehlman had declared his sexuality at the time, he would have been forced out of the chairman’s position. There is no possible way that Republicans would have allowed an openly gay man to be head of the RNC. Mehlman knew this and went along with promoting the GOP’s anti-gay agenda. Any way you wish to parse it, Mehlman’s actions make him a hypocrite of the worst kind.  But he’s come around, a bit late, and I’ll give him credit for having done so.

As for this part…

He said that he plans to be an advocate for gay rights within the GOP, that he remains proud to be a Republican, and that his political identity is not defined by any one issue.

“What I will try to do is to persuade people, when I have conversations with them, that it is consistent with our party’s philosophy, whether it’s the principle of individual freedom, or limited government, or encouraging adults who love each other and who want to make a lifelong committment to each other to get married.”

“I hope that we, as a party, would welcome gay and lesbian supporters. I also think there needs to be, in the gay community, robust and bipartisan support [for] marriage rights.”

…good luck with that although I have no idea what he thinks his party has done in the last decade to make him proud.  The Republican party has allowed itself to be defined by it’s southern, white conservative base but having someone working from the inside to try to enlighten these bigoted, narrow-minded jackasses can’t hurt.
