Rachel Maddow

Unlike the subject in the previous post, Rachel Maddow is a well respected “truth-teller” who people from all sides of the political spectrum admire…

The Huffington Post

Rachel Maddow was nominated for a Grammy Award. The nominations wereannounced on Wednesday.

Maddow was nominated for Best Spoken Word Album with her book, “Drift: The Unmooring of American Military Power.” She shares the category nomination with Ellen DeGeneres, Bill Clinton and First Lady Michelle Obama.

A number of politicians have been nominated and subsequently won Grammy Awards in this category before. President Barack Obama won in 2008 with his book “The Audacity of Hope: Thoughts on Reclaiming the American Dream.” He also won in 2006 with his book “Dreams From My Father.”

Clinton picked up the prestigious award one year earlier—in 2005—with his book “My Life.” Secretary of State Hillary Clinton also won in this category in 1997 with her book “It Takes A Village.”

The 2013 Grammy Awards will take place on Feb. 10 on CBS.

Whitney Houston Dead: Singer Dies At 48

The Huffington Post

Whitney Houston is dead at 48 years old.

The superstar singer and actress’s publicist, Kristin Foster, broke the news of Houston’s passing to the AP. She was found and pronounced dead at the Beverly Hills Hilton on Saturday afternoon; thus far, no cause of death has been revealed. In recent years, she struggled with drug abuse.

Her self-titled debut album, released in 1985, sold 25 million copies worldwide. In total, she released seven albums and three film soundtracks; a winner of six Grammys, Houston sold over 200 million albums and singles worldwide. She earned 30 Billboard Awards, 22 American Music Awards and two Emmy Awards.

Words cannot describe the shock and disbelief millions of Whitney fans must have felt when they heard the news that Whitney Houston was dead.

My heart goes out to Whitney and Bobby’s daughter as well as Whitney’s mother and the entire Houston family.

One of my favorite moments in the life and career of Miss Whitney Houston:

Her 911 Tribute:

Finally…The Greatest Love Of All

Whitney, you were loved.  Sleep in peace young lady.

Amy Winehouse

Amy Winehouse at the Eurockéennes of 2007

Image via Wikipedia

I’ve heard of Amy Winehouse and often glossed over the constant reports of her drug and alcohol addiction.   It was only in the last six months or so that I actually watched some of her videos on You Tube.  Needless to say, I was blown away by her voice.  Many compare her to Billie Holiday.  I’m not sure if the comparison was their addiction to heroin or their voices.  I will guess, both.

I found Amy Winehouse’s voice to be amazingly soulful.  What little I knew about her life, I found it to be all too sad and familiar

RIP Amy.
