Republican Desperation Grows as Benghazi Backfires and Scandal Talk Fizzles

This will not deter the right-wing Obama Conspiracy factory.

They will find ways to continue to blame Obama for the Benghazi attack on September 11, 2012.

Their attack on Ambassador Susan Rice fizzled after General Patraeus’ closed testimony at the Capitol yesterday.  Patraeus confirmed that Ambassador Rice was given a CIA-revised version of events in Benghazi to report to the media.  The revision was for national security reasons, according to Patraeus.

Funny thing, it appears Sen. John McCain, Rep. Peter King, et al have adapted the Romney style of never apologizing, even for obvious mistakes or outright lies.  They definitely owe U.N. Ambassador Susan Rice an apology…

Benghazi gate is not going as Republicans planned, and in fact, the failure to gain traction on their narrative is further compelling Republicans to hysterics. Since they drew so much attention to this issue, courtesy of the need to defend Romney’s Libya debacle just hours after the attack, the media is now paying attention just in time to catch the GOP crazy in full bloom.

It was impossible to miss John McCain’s growing desperation yesterday, as his plans to bring down Obama backfired and the narrative of the day became him skipping the very briefing that would have answered his questions. Trending on Yahoo all day was “John McCain Missed Briefing While Slamming Obama Over Benghazi Attack”. Alexa treated him no better.

Embarrassed and humiliated, the Senator screamed at a CNN for pointing out that while he appeared on TV to talk about how he needed more information about Benghazi, he missed his own committee briefing on Benghazi.

Asked to comment, he said, “I have the right as a senator to have no comment and who the hell are you to tell me I can or not?” Followed up by, “I’m upset that you keep badgering me.”

Then, Republicans in a House Foreign Affairs hearing ratcheted up their accusations to full scale crazy, likening what the Obama administration has done on Benghazi to being worse than Watergate and repeatedly accusing him of lying.

Rep. Dana Rohrabacher (R-CA) bordered on hysteria about how “this” was not just some cover up of a third-rate Watergate burglary, “What is clear is that this administration, including the president himself, has intentionally misinformed, read that LIED, to the American people in the aftermath of this tragedy… This is not simply a cover up of a third-rate burglary.”

The ranting continued with other Republicans chiming in.

Bill Maher Wants To Know: ‘Who The F@#k Is Saul Alinsky?’

I saw this week’s Bill Maher Show and it was rather disappointing because Bill’s two right-wing guests dominated the show.

I specifically watched to see political commentator and host Martin Bashir who’s afternoon show on MSNBC is my number one DVR priority for that time slot.  However, Mr. Bashir hardly got a word in because of the two aforementioned extremely talkative wing-nuts.

However, Bill Maher did indeed score big on his question and then analysis on Saul Alinsky, the guy Newt Gingrich, Glenn Beck, and Fox News always compare the President to on their programs…

One of Newt Gingrich‘s most bizarre lines of attack against liberals and President Obama is that they’re basically working from the playbook of Saul Alinsky. This has been a rally cry of his for months now. Most of us who aren’t that aware of early 20th century political activists have no idea who the hell Saul Alinsky is, but luckily, Bill Maher  gave everyone a primer on who this insidious man is on his show tonight. And what he discovered is that it’s not just Newt Gingrich, but also Glenn Beck, who has turned Alinsky into the latest liberal boogeyman.

Maher joked that for Alinsky to garner the ire of Newt, he must be a divorce lawyer or something.  And he admitted that even as a member of the evil liberal media,  he had no idea who the actual fuck this person is. But after a quick Wikpedia search, Maher realized that Alinsky is best known for being a civil rights advocate in the 1950s.  Like the president, Alinsky was a community organizer, but the chances of them ever swapping notes are pretty slim, mostly because Alinsky died during Obama’s preteen years.

But the Alinsky line of attack was not the main target of Maher’s new rule, but rather the Republican attempts to paint Obama as someone he is clearly not. Maher went down the list of attacks (including a small dig at Dana Rohrabacher‘s comments from earlier in the show).

“This is how politics has changed. You used to run against an actual president. But now you just recreate him inside the bubble and run against your new fictional candidate.”

Maher argued that as partisan and occasionally hyperbolic as George W. Bush‘s critics were, at least they were attacking the actual person. But for Gingrich to actually accuse Obama of being “anti-work,” Maher suspected Republicans were operating on “a paranoid feeling about what he might do.”

Rep. Rohrabacher Suggests White People Will ‘Lose Our Freedom’ If The DREAM Act Passes

In their efforts to bring down the DREAM Act, which would give children of undocumented immigrants who complete college or volunteer for the military a path to citizenship, conservatives have been smearing the bill as “backdoor amnesty” for undocumented immigrants and claiming it creates a loophole for terrorists. Unfortunately, many of their attacks have also taken on racial undertones. Yesterday, Fox News host Glenn Beck told a caller on his radio show that the bill would disenfranchise white people, saying, “if you’re white or you’re an American citizen or a white American citizen, you’re pretty much toast.” Beck suggested his caller steal a Mexican ID card in to receive the supposedly preferential treatment minorities will receive under DREAM.

While clearly bigoted, Beck’s comments appeared to have the joking tone of a self-described “rodeo clown.” But Rep. Dana Rohrabacher (R-CA) was not joking when he took to the House floor Wednesday to warn that voting for “the Affirmative Action Amnesty Act,” as he dubbed DREAM, will “relegate the position of non-minority American citizens to behind those who are now in this country illegally.”

Appearing on Radio America with Greg Corombus yesterday, Rohrabacher expanded on the dangers to white people of DREAM, explaining that the “real zinger” is that it puts minorities “ahead of every American child who’s not a minority.” “[T]hey can get into college before our kids,” Rohrabacher said on behalf of white people everywhere, warning ominously at the end of the interview that “if Americans aren’t alerted to this, we’re going to lose our freedom”.

Of course, the DREAM Act is not amnesty, nor is it affirmative action, and it is certainly not a measure to oppress white people. The bill extends conditional legal status for five years to young people who are upstanding citizens and in this country illegally by not fault of their own. It will also help enforce immigration laws, reduce the deficit, and strengthen the military, but that doesn’t seem to matter to Rohrabacher or Beck.

Bush and Conservative Criticism of a Clueless President

I found this tweet by Republican Rep. Dana Rohrabacher amusing.

Bush not class act, destroyed GOP, jailed Ramos & Compean, left us bailouts, gave more power to fed gov & China.

A class act he is not. Agreed. But more relevant than any damage Bush might have done to the GOP brand (tarnished as it already was), was numbnut’s destruction of the economy, an immoral war responsible for the death of hundreds of thousands of innocent lives and his staining of the United State’s international image.

And for the record, Bush did not do his work single handed.  He had the aid of a Republican Congress for six of his eight years of madness.  In addition he had the support of a conservative media who for the most part applauded his every misdeed.

I chuckle at teabaggers and conservative politicians who suddenly find it appropriate to claim that their criticism is directed at both parties – that Republicans were guilty of betraying conservative principles during the first eight years of the decade.  They tell us now how upset they are about it all.  Bullshit.  Where was the criticism then?  I don’t recall hearing a single teabagger who now screams about rising deficits complaining two years ago about Bush having increased the national debt by $4 trillion dollars.  Why is that?

It’s because they didn’t give a damn as long as a Republican sat in the White House.  That’s why.  So fine, have Republicans criticize George W. Bush now that he’s out of office.  It’s a bit late, assholes.  If you really did care, you would have been displaying your disapproval long before he lied his way, and a nation, into war and debt.

Forgive me if some of us find your criticism as less a reflection of heartfelt sentiment and more of a ruse and another example of self-serving politics.
