Congressman Tears Into Fox News Host For Obsessing Over Benghazi Talking Points

As Daily Kos reminded us…If it’s Sunday, It’s Benghazi All Day Long…

Think Progress

Rep. Adam Smith (D-WA) tore into Fox News’ Chris Wallace and House Intelligence Committee Chairman Mike Rogers (R-MI) for obsessing over the talking points U.N. Ambassador Susan Rice used when talking to the media in the days following the attack in Benghazi, Libya rather than focusing on identifying the perpetrators of the killings. “I think the desire of the Republicans to create a scandal here has really undermined any ability to have a credible look at what actually happened,” Smith said during an appearance on Fox News Sunday alongside Rogers.

While acknowledging that the administration’s initial assessment of Bengazi did not reflect what officials later learned about the incident, Smith criticized Fox for suggesting that that Rice’s remarks on five Sunday news shows presented a definitive picture of the events of Sep. 11, 2012.

“[The administration] didn’t reach conclusions the way you just presented that was that by the Sunday afterwards that the administration said here is what happened, here is our conclusion,” Smith explained. “But the president never said, no terrorism, no Al Qaeda. There was a dispute about how soon to lead to specific conclusions that now is being made into Watergate and Iran-Contra.” Watch it:

Indeed, during multiple appearances on the Sunday shows Rice said that the attacks were in part a response to the anti-Islam video that had spurred protests across the region, but did not offer a definitive answer as to what exactly took place in Benghazi and predicated the administration’s assessment as “based on the information that we have at present.” The CIA and State Department did initially believe that the attack was spontaneously inspired by the protests in Cairo, Egypt.

Still, in the days after the attack, both Obama and then Secretary of State Hillary Clintondescribed the events in Benghazi as an “act of terror” and pledged justice against the perpetrators.

Wallace responded to Smith pointing out that intelligence officials changed Rice’s talking points at least 12 times, taking out references to prior attacks and specific terrorist groups. “We’re talking about talking points,” Smith reminded the host. “There was no question this was a it terrorist attack. They didn’t deny it. I would much rather get into investigation of the groups that threatened the U.S., figure out how they are, and how to stop them instead of debating how one memo was put together in the immediate days after the attack.”

Sunday Talk: Obama won. Get over it!

Thanks Daily Kos!

Daily Kos

On Monday, thanks to the complicity of Chief Justice John Roberts, President Obama will be sworn in for the fourth time.

Not only will this be an affront to God and the Founding Fathers, but also to the millions of responsible gun owners who are dedicated to protecting retail shoppers from criminals, cartels, drug lords, and evil men.

Try as he might to (hypocritically) wrap himself in the mantle of Ronald Reagan, it’s obvious that Obama’s disdain for the Second Amendment is part and parcel of his Kenyananti-colonial world view.

Ever since his first inauguration, he has done everything in his power to destroy capitalism and replace it with a tyrannical dictatorship modeled after Hitler, Stalin and/or Saddam Hussein.

Clearly, the fear of Obama is totally rational.

Sunday Talk: Shall we play a game?

Official presidential portrait of Barack Obama...

Image via Wikipedia

Silly Rabbit over at Daily Kos has a wicked sense of humor.  Love it!

While President Obama was ignoring the worsening crises in Japan and Libya in favor of making his NCAA basketball tournament picks, House Republicans were busy dealing with a real emergency… namely, federal funding of NPR.

True presidential leadership—the type that only money can buy—would’ve resulted in Obama donning a HazMat suit and flying to Tokyo to help put out the reactor fires.

Instead, he chose UCONN to win its third straight women’s national championship.

Let’s all hope for the best, but prepare for the worst.

Sunday Talk – You’ve Got To Hand It To Them

Daily Kos

This was the week the Tea Party finally secured its place in American history books (pending approval from the Texas Board of Education).

Whereas, until now, teabaggers had been content with nominating fringe lunatics like Rand Paul and Sharron Angle for Senate seats, this time around they chose someone well within the mainstream of lunacy.

What Christine O’Donnell lacks in experience, she more than makes up for with her vast knowledge of crime scene forensics, suntan lotion marketing, satanic rituals, dorm room living, STD prevention, radiocarbon dating, human-animal hybridisation, and the collected works of J.R.R. Tolkien.

She truly epitomizes outside the box thinking.

Morning Lineup:

Meet the Press: Former President Bill Clinton; Former Secretary of State Colin Powell.

Face the Nation: Former President Bill Clinton; US Senate Candidate Christine O’Donnell (R-DE); Republican Strategist Ed Rollins; Michael Gerson (Washington Post).

This Week: Secretary of State Hillary Clinton; Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad; Roundtable: Delaware State Republican Chairman Tom Ross, George Will (Washington Post), David Sanger (New York Times) and Peter Beinart (Daily Beast).

Fox News Sunday: US Senate Candidate Christine O’Donnell (R-DE); US Senate Candidate Joe Miller (R-AK); Republican Operative Karl Rove; Roundtable: Bill Kristol (Weekly Standard), Nina Easton (Fortune), Sociopath Liz Cheney and Juan Williams (NPR/FNC).

State of the Union: Sen. Jim DeMint (R-SC); DNC Chairman Tim Kaine; Former Rep. Tom Davis (R-VA); Former White House Communications Director Anita Dunn; Reliable Sources: John Avion (CNN); Craig Crawford (Congressional Quarterly); Debra Sanders (San Francisco Chronicle); Tina Brown (Daily Beast).

Sunday Talk Show Highlights | POLITICO 44

Politico44

Here’s what you may have missed from this week’s Sunday political talks shows:

THE VIEW FROM THE WHITE HOUSE: Goolsbee offers a less-than-rosy take on the jobless rate, and warily notes Boehner’s choice of words. Axelrod eyes Voinovich’s promise to break a Republican filibuster on tax breaks for small businesses, and maintains hope that the public will come around on health care reform. Napolitano casts the DHS in evolutionary terms.

JUST OUTSIDE: Orszag argues that his column on the tax cuts was misinterpreted and dismisses the idea that Obama is socialist. Hoyer remains optimistic that Democrats will hold the House.

ON THE RIGHT: Boehner grudgingly concedes that he’d vote for a partial extension of the Bush tax cuts, while Gingrich urges all Republicans to do the same.

Newt thinks the GOP’s midterm gains could exceed those made in 1994. Armey and Lott disagree on the proper insurgent-establishment dynamic.

NEAR GROUND ZERO: Rauf regrets causing controversy, but worries moving the proposed Islamic center would strengthen radicals.

FROM NOWHERE: Pointing to tobacco ties and health risks, Schieffer pushes Boehner to quit smoking.

The Sunday Roundup

Politico

http://www.politico.com/singletitlevideo.html?bcpid=19407224001&bctid=359250224001

On the Sunday shows: THE WAR – The U.S. isn’t in Afghanistan for nation building, says Gates. Kerry sees common U.S.-Iranian interests in Afghanistan, while Graham warns on an ‘unholy’ left-right domestic alliance to end the war,  and he praises Obama on Pakistan.  And Levin sees an Afghanistan nightmare in the making — for the Taliban.

WIKILEAKS FALLOUT — Info trumps secrecy, says Gates. Mullen rips the leakers. Kerry shrugs off Pentagon Papers parallels. And Graham asks: who the hell is watching?

THE SPEAKER – Pelosi and Gates offer very different expectations for next year’s drawdown. Plus: The speaker signals her unhappiness with the Afghan war, says she’s “sad” about Rangel, and dismisses the prediction of “that gentleman” Gibbs, but doesn’t deign to name him. THE REST  Boehner: GOP agenda coming in August. will offer its agenda this month. Kyl says it’s time for Congress to step up on immigration.  Greenspan sounds glum. Levin says Obama’s still in demand on the trail. Rangel’s situation is “not good for New York,” says Bloomberg,  who again rules out a 2010 presidential run. Palin blames the press for her low numbers, calls the Obama plan to roll back the Bush tax cuts “idiotic.” And Amanpour’s Sunday morning debut.
