Rep. Steve King (R-IA) Attacks Sasha And Malia Obama

Why are some GOP Congressmen and Senators such cowards?

Think Progress

This week, Breitbart News broke a long-standing security protocol and published a story detailing the precise location where President Obama’s daughters are vacationing this week. On Wednesday, Rep. Steve King (R-IA) used the report to attack the First Daughters for taking a vacation.

King’s comments came during an appearance on Mickelson in the Morning, an Iowa-based radio show. A caller, Carla, brought up sequestration and proceeded to criticize the Michelle Obama and her daughters for taking a vacation in the Bahamas. King agreed — “Carla, you’re on point and on the mark all the way through” — before criticizing them for also taking a vacation last year in Mexico. “That was at our expense, too,” King bemoaned.

CALLER: When I see the First Lady and the beautiful girls going off to the Bahamas waving goodbye to us, it’s really hard to stomach. When we’re tightening our belts, either all of us should do it or none of us should do it. This, I am pretty tolerant, I always have been, I usually shut my mouth. This is not acceptable.

KING: Carla, you’re on point and on the mark all the way through. […] You’re right on the president. He needs to show some austerity himself. Instead he wanted to tell America how bad it was going to be. […] We’ve got the president doing these things. He sent the daughters to spring break in Mexico a year ago. That was at our expense, too. And now to the Bahamas at one of the most expensive places there. That is the wrong image to be coming out of the White House.

Listen to it:

This notion that the Obamas are living a life of excess is beginning to take hold among conservative members of Congress. At the CPAC conference earlier this month, Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-MN) smeared Obama for enjoying “the perks and the excess of the $1.4 billion presidency,” a charge that “fail[s] on the facts in simple fairness,” according to CNN.

King is strongly considering running for Iowa’s open Senate seat in 2014. His potential candidacy is already causing consternation among establishment Republicans who worry that he will be a Todd Akin-redux, appealing only to far-right conservatives and turning off everyone else.

NRA targets Obama’s kids in a scathing new ad

Malia Obama, Sasha Obama and first lady Michelle Obama listen as President Obama speaks at the DNC in Charlotte, North Carolina on September 6, 2012.

This is the latest despicable piece of crap coming from the not so bright folks at the NRA…

MSNBC’s The Last Word

The National Rifle Association is getting personal. In a new web video the gun lobby calls President Obama an “elitist hypocrite” for using the Secret Service to protect his two children, Sasha, age 11, and Malia, age 14.

The ad, posted to the NRA’s Stand and Fight website, criticizes Obama for opposing the NRA’s proposal of increasing the number of armed guards in schools as a way to prevent shootings like the Sandy Hook massacre.

“Are the president’s kids more important than yours?” asks the voiceover on the ad. “Then why is he skeptical about putting armed security in our schools when his kids are protected by armed guards at their school?” It continues, “Mr. Obama demands the wealthy pay their fair share of taxes, but he’s just another elitist hypocrite when it comes to a fair share of security. Protection for their kids and gun-free zones for ours.”

The video does not show pictures of the president’s daughters, using instead images of outspoken gun control advocates such as New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg and Vice President Joe Biden.

The ad apparently served as a preemptive strike against President Obama, who plans to unveil his high anticipated proposals to reduce gun violence on Wednesday. Along with school security, mental health and the entertainment industry, the president is also expected to recommend universal background checks, a ban on high-capacity magazines and some sort of assault weapons ban.

Last week, Obama signed a bill to restore lifetime Secret Service protection for presidents elected after 1997, which includes himself and George W. Bush, and presidents in the future, along with their wives. The law gives children of former presidents protection until the age of 16.

George W. Bush signed a directive four days before he left office, authorizing the Secret Service to provide a period of extended protection for his daughters Jenna and Barbara. Bill Clinton had also authorized extended coverage for his daughter Chelsea when his term ended. The Secret Service asked that the period of additional protection be kept confidential.

Family values? Seriously?

I was going through my blogroll list and came across this site

There was no text to go with the pictures but none was actually needed.

I will say that the so-called Family Values  family (Rick Santorum’s picture) and the Obama family, who is viewed by the right wing as just the opposite of a family values  family, show a vast contrast in that way of thinking.

Just saying…

The Conservative Lie

The New York Times profile of Obama’s mom: 6 takeaways

What other president has gone through such scrutiny?  What other president has had his family raked through the coals, demonized, villified and slandered, like President Barack Obama’s family, especially his mom?

For example: They claim she was raped.  They claim she was in Kenya when Obama was born.  They claimed that Frank Marshall Davis or Malcom X was Obama’s true father.  Many on the right also called her a commie.

The following takeaway from the New York Times profile of Stanley Dunham Sotero is quite benign in comparison to the short list of attacks listed above

All I can say is that President Barack Obama is a very strong man to have to listen to or read the trash written about him and his family.  When his presidency is finaly over in 2016, I can’t wait for the book about his campaigns and his White House Years.

The Week

1. Obama wanted to be prime minister… of Indonesia
Dunham believed her son was “unusually gifted,” and would boast about his abilities to friends, says Scott. She would even tell friends and acquaintances that little Barry, not even 10 years old, could someday be president of the United States. The boy himself had similarly lofty aspirations, but when asked by his stepfather what he wanted to be when he grew up, Barry said, “Oh, prime minister.” Apparently, “at that point in his childhood, Obama assumed his stay in Indonesia was permanent and envisioned his future there,” says Dan Amira at New York. But that anecdote is sure to “bring a wry smile to the faces of ‘birthers,’” says David Gardner in the Daily Mail.

2. Obama shrugged off racism
Barry was subjected to teasing about his skin color, from both adults and children. One day, as he ran ahead of his mother and a group of friends, Indonesian kids began to throw rocks and shout racial epithets at him, Scott says. But Barry “seemed unfazed,” and his mother did not react. When a friend offered to step in, Dunham declined. “No, he’s O.K.,” she said. “He’s used to it.”

3. The president may have been spanked as a child
Dunham spoke about disciplining young Barry, “including spanking him for things where he richly deserved a spanking,” according to a colleague quoted by Scott. A man who says he worked as a houseboy for Dunham and her husband in the 1970s also says that if Obama did not finish his homework, his mother “would call him into his room and would spank him with his father’s military belt.” Obama denies that such spankings took place.

4. Dunham had a real independent streak
Dunham “had strong opinions — and rarely softened them to please others.” When her husband took a job that required “socializing with oil-company executives and their wives,” Dunham balked at country-clubbing — and told friends that the middle-aged Americans she was supposed to be chummy with droned on about silly things. Her husband, she complained to a friend, “was becoming more American all the time.” At the same time, her husband’s success meant that Dunham had a staff of domestic servants that freed her from housework and allowed her to pursue her own interests.

5. Her marriage may have had an episode of violence
In one instance, when Dunham returned home late from work, her husband, Lolo Soetoro, got upset, according to a servant, and an argument ensued. Afterward, the servant recalls that Dunham “appeared in the house with a towel pressed to her face and blood running from her nose.” But no one else “suggested there was ever violence between Ann and Lolo, a man many people described as patient and sweet-tempered.”

6. Obama remembers her as strong… but disorganized
The president offered Scott some “surprisingly candid reflections on his mother’s parenting flaws,” says Kevin Spak at Newser. Dunham “was a very strong person in her own way,” the president says. But “she was not a well-organized person. And that disorganization, you know, spilled over. Had it not been for my grandparents, I think, providing some sort of safety net financially, being able to take me and my sister on … I think my mother would have had to make some different decisions.”

APNewsBreak: Hawaii won’t release Obama birth info

Scanned image of Barack Obama's Birth Certific...

Image via Wikipedia

Huffington Post

Democratic Gov. Neil Abercrombie will end his quest to prove President Barack Obama was born in Hawaii because it’s against state law to release private documents, his office said Friday.

State Attorney General David Louie told the governor he can’t disclose an individual’s birth documentation without a person’s consent, Abercrombie spokeswoman Donalyn Dela Cruz said.

“There is nothing more that Gov. Abercrombie can do within the law to produce a document,” said Dela Cruz. “Unfortunately, there are conspirators who will continue to question the citizenship of our president.”

Abercrombie, who was a friend of Obama’s parents and knew him as a child, launched an effort last month to find a way to dispel conspiracy theories that the president was born elsewhere. The governor said at the time he was bothered by people who questioned Obama’s birthplace for political reasons.

But Abercrombie’s investigation reached a dead end when Louie told him the law restricted his options.

Hawaii’s privacy laws have long barred the release of a certified birth certificate to anyone who doesn’t have a tangible interest.

So-called “birthers” claim Obama is ineligible to be president because they say there’s no proof he was born in the United States, with many of the skeptics questioning whether he was actually born in Kenya, his father’s home country.

Beck lies about his history of “dragging” Obama’s family “into the debate”

Imagine this clown, Beck denying he ever spoke ill of the Obama family until Friday. What a lying POS.

Media Matters

Addressing comments he made on his May 28 radio show attacking President Obama’s daughter, Glenn Beck lied about his history of “dragging” Obama’s family “into the debate,” falsely claiming that he had “never done it until last Friday.” In fact, as Media Matters has previously documented, Beck has repeatedly brought up Obama’s family in his commentary over the last several months.

Beck claims he had “never” talked about Obama family before Friday

Beck says he had “never” talked about Obama’s family “until last Friday.” During the June 1 edition of his Fox News show, Beck said that “there is absolutely no excuse or reason to ever, ever, ever, ever even come close to the line of dragging somebody’s family into the debate. I’ve never done it. I’ve never done it until last Friday.”

Beck’s attacks on Obama’s family date back to April 2009

Beck on Obama’s aunt: “I took this cane from her earlier”; “[I]t’s like little Tiny Tim.” During the April 2, 2009, edition of his Fox News show, Beck discussed Obama’s aunt visa status and stated, “Obama’s aunt, you know — and I took this cane from her earlier. I — it’s like little Tiny Tim. Oh, I’d like more. please. Please. God bless us, every one.’ She has a limp, didn’t you know that? She should be able to stay.”

Beck: “What scar is left when the mom leaves a son who’s been abandoned by his father for Marxism?” During the March 17 edition of his Fox News show, Beck stated: “Here’s a sad thing that I don’t think anybody will really ever say about Barack Obama, because it sounds mean, and I don’t mean it to be mean.” He continued:

BECK: This is truly a sad, tragic story. But the only way to understand — first of all, all the people around him — and then his thinking — I don’t think he’s an evil man. I don’t think he’s trying to do evil things intentionally.

He really does believe Marxism is the way, is the answer, it is the future. He believes that. From the moment he was born, he had contact with nothing but socialist, Marxist, communist radicals. His father abandoned him. Why? So he could go off to a Marxist school in New York. Then his father left the country to go try it out.

How tragic. What kind of scar does that leave on a boy?

Then his mother: I mean, this is — you tell me. What scar is left when the mom leaves a son who’s been abandoned by his father for Marxism — leaves the son with his grandparents so she can pursue critical theory, which is Marxist? Both parents leave a boy for Marxism?

And then he goes to his parents — or his grandparents. His grandparents attended the little red church, which was known for its communist teachings. Grandpa introduced him to Frank Marshall Davis. Frank Marshall Davis is now his teenage mentor. Frank Marshall Davis has an FBI file this big.

Examining Obama’s “foundation,” Beck said, “I’m going to start with his parents.” During the April 6 edition of his Fox News show, Beck purported to understand the “foundation” of Obama, asking: “What is he building? On what foundation does he have? I’m going to start with his parents.” He later said: “His parents seemingly placed radical politics over everything else — including their little boy.”

Beck pointed to Obama’s parents, grandparents to say Obama “didn’t have a chance to actually think anything but radical thoughts.” Later during the same April 6 show, Beck pointed to pictures of Obama’s family and said: “This kid didn’t have a chance to be rooted in the Founding Fathers. This guy doesn’t have a chance to actually think anything but radical thoughts. Based on everybody in his life so far, who’s defending capitalism?”

Beck referenced the history of Obama’s parents to discuss whether Obama is “the most radical president ever.” During the April 9 edition of his radio program, Beck referenced his Fox News show from April 6 to talk about Obama’s father’s “writings on socialism and communism” and went on to talk about Obama’s mother, saying: “His mother — communist sympathizer, studied critical theory … she left Barack Obama.”

Beck launched sexist attack on Michelle Obama. As Media Matters previously documented, Beck launched a sexist attack on Michelle Obama, saying: “I don’t think I’ve ever seen the first lady with her — excuse the expression — but with her breasts all smooshed up, sort of. I mean, what is that?” Beck later commented on Michelle Obama’s dress and makeup during the same program.

Beck linked Obama’s daughters to Rev. Wright, asked: “Are you telling me that for 20 years … the kids didn’t pick it up?” On the May 24 edition of his radio show, Beck said:

BECK: At some point, there’s a tipping point. At some point, you look at — you know, you start with Jeremiah Wright. OK, there’s one thing.

Now, I still have a problem — because, I mean, I know my kids come home and — on Sunday, and we’re driving in the car. And my daughter will say, you know, “Blah blah blah blah blah.” And we’ll — and my wife and I will just look at each other and go, “Where did you get that?”

“Oh, Johnny said it.” We’re like, “What? Explain — what were you guys talking about?” You know.

Are you telling me that for 20 years, no one in that family — the kids didn’t pick it up? They didn’t hear anything and repeat something outrageous? Michelle didn’t?

Beck mocked Obama daughters’ “level of education.” On the May 28 edition of his radio program, Beck had the following exchange with co-host Pat Gray:

BECK: (laughing) This is such a ridiculous — this is such a ridiculous thing that his daughter — (imitating Malia) Daddy?

GRAY: It’s so stupid.

BECK: How old is his daughter? Like, 13?

GRAY: Well, one of them’s, I think, 13, one’s 11, or something.

BECK: “Did you plug the hole yet, daddy?” Is that’s their — that’s the level of their education, that they’re coming to — they’re coming to daddy and saying ‘Daddy, did you plug the hole yet?’ ” Plug the hole!

Beck’s statement of apology was incomplete. As Media Matters previously noted, Beck’s statement of apology did not address his attack on Obama’s children earlier that week, or any other instances of bringing up Obama’s family during his commentary.
