Letter of Resignation Sent By Bush to Rifle Association

Being Liberal

Following is the letter of resignation sent by former President George Bush to the National Rifle Association: May 3, 1995

Dear Mr. Washington,

I was outraged when, even in the wake of the Oklahoma City tragedy, Mr. Wayne LaPierre, executive vice president of N.R.A., defended his attack on federal agents as “jack-booted thugs.” To attack Secret Service agents or A.T.F. people or any government law enforcement people as “wearing Nazi bucket helmets and black storm trooper uniforms” wanting to “attack law abiding citizens” is a vicious slander on good people.

Al Whicher, who served on my [ United States Secret Service ] detail when I was Vice President and President, was killed in Oklahoma City. He was no Nazi. He was a kind man, a loving parent, a man dedicated to serving his country — and serve it well he did.

In 1993, I attended the wake for A.T.F. agent Steve Willis, another dedicated officer who did his duty. I can assure you that this honorable man, killed by weird cultists, was no Nazi.

John Magaw, who used to head the U.S.S.S. and now heads A.T.F., is one of the most principled, decent men I have ever known. He would be the last to condone the kind of illegal behavior your ugly letter charges. The same is true for the F.B.I.’s able Director Louis Freeh. I appointed Mr. Freeh to the Federal Bench. His integrity and honor are beyond question.

Both John Magaw and Judge Freeh were in office when I was President. They both now serve in the current administration. They both have badges. Neither of them would ever give the government’s “go ahead to harass, intimidate, even murder law abiding citizens.” (Your words)

I am a gun owner and an avid hunter. Over the years I have agreed with most of N.R.A.’s objectives, particularly your educational and training efforts, and your fundamental stance in favor of owning guns.

However, your broadside against Federal agents deeply offends my own sense of decency and honor; and it offends my concept of service to country. It indirectly slanders a wide array of government law enforcement officials, who are out there, day and night, laying their lives on the line for all of us.

You have not repudiated Mr. LaPierre’s unwarranted attack. Therefore, I resign as a Life Member of N.R.A., said resignation to be effective upon your receipt of this letter. Please remove my name from your membership list.

Sincerely,

[ signed ] George Bush

Daddy Bush Mocks Current Republican Degenerates – Hypocrisy Is A (GOP) Virtue

Addicting Info

In a recent preview of Parade’s interview with Barbara and George H. W. Bush, there was this glorious gem:

“The rigidity of those pledges is something I don’t like,” Bush said of the ‘no-tax’ pedges. “The circumstances change and you can’t be wedded to some formula by Grover Norquist. It’s — who the hell is Grover Norquist, anyway?”

It’s not every day you see liberals sharing a Bush quote without ridiculing it and/or gagging in disgust, but that’s exactly what’s happening on Facebook right now. Nobody should be thatsurprised, though, as we’ve all witnessed the absolute nightmare that the GOP has morphed into; any sign of reason or logic – even from a Bush – is bound to seem downright extraordinary in contrast. Did anyone ever think we would actually see the day when Newt My-Own-Party-Kicked-Me-Out-Of-The-Clubhouse Gingrich was a serious Republican candidate for President? The party of “family values” actually welcomed this scumbag fraud who cheated on his cancer-survivor wife with open arms! Of course, once you remember that “family values” is actually just a dog-whistle to the ‘Gawd Hates Fags’ constituency, it makes a tad more sense…

So, this quote is my gift to you, reasonable readers! Enjoy it, relish it; try not to feel too let down when you find out that GHWB actually once signed the same damned pledge in question.

Oh, one more thing, just for a laugh:

BB: He may have talked to you about things, but you never advised.
GB: Oh, yeah, we’d talk about things. He never said the “Dad, what do I do now?” kind of thing.

…of course he didn’t! We all know Cheney ‘wore the pants‘ in that administration.

Dubya’s Presidential Center

Mario Piperni

News item:

Surrounded by veterans of his administration, former President George W. Bush broke ground on his presidential center on Tuesday and promised to continue to advance the “principles that guided our service in public office.”

“We believe that America’s interest and conscience demand engagement in the world, because what happens elsewhere inevitably affects us here,” Bush said at a ceremony at the future site of the George W. Bush Presidential Center, a library, museum and think tank to be built on the campus of Southern Methodist University in Dallas.

I imagine that if the words George W. Bush, library and think tank can all be linked in some meaningful way, then any three words one can possibly think up can equally be placed side by side regardless of how little relevance the first might have with the next two (baboon/Mayo Clinic/rocket science quickly comes to mind.)

The only ‘presidential center’ I can think of which would be a fitting tribute to the incredible ignorance of George W. Bush would be the freak show at a traveling carnival showcasing Louise-The Bearded Lady and Barney-The Dog Faced Boy.

Letterman is more on the mark with his Top Ten Highlights of the George W. Bush Library Groundbreaking.

10. While digging, they found Obama’s birth certificate
9. Read warm congratulatory note from Osama and Julie bin Laden
8. Displayed thousands of books Bush pretends to read
7. George arrived wearing a flight suit and piloting the Conan blimp
6. Dubya only had three shoes thrown at him
5. Dug up thousands of Gore ballots from 2000
4. Bush gave Halliburton $300 million check just for the hell of it
3. George correctly pronounced the word “nuclear” (it doesn’t get any more groundbreaking than that)
2. After a few seconds of digging, Bush raised “Mission Accomplished” banner
1. Bush and Cheney celebrated the day with a long, passionate, open-mouth kiss

The last item preferably while sharing a cell at a Federal Correctional complex.

George H. W. Bush Calls Olbermann and Maddow “Sick Puppies”

bush_sr_jrCall me myopic, call me partisan, but George H.W. Bush, the father of “Dirty Poltics” (Willie Horton ad) claims that Olbermann and Maddow are “sick puppies” for harrassing his son day in and day out, is simply a shameless form of projection.

This video  lets you hear G.H.W. Bush’s statement and Maddow and Olbermann’s response.  Very interesting.  Keith Olbermann  particularly nails it when he mentions how Bush, Sr. started and engaged in attack politics with Roger Ailes and Lee Atwater.

Think Progress:    In an interview with CBS News radio yesterday, former President George H.W. Bush called assailed the tone of our national discourse. “I don’t like it. The cables (TV) have a lot to do with it,” he said, adding that MSNBC’s Rachel Maddow and Keith Olbermann were partly responsible:

The Republican elder statesman said, “It’s not just the right.” He complained, “there are plenty of people on the left.”

While he said he does not believe in personal name-calling, he singled out MSNBC personalities Keith Olbermann and Rachel Maddow calling them “sick puppies.”

“The way they treat my son and anyone who’s opposed to their point of view is just horrible,” Mr. Bush said.

Last night, Maddow invited Olbermann, who was out sick, to call in and discuss Bush’s statements on her show. “I think that I can speak on your behalf here and say that we’re very grateful for the former president’s concern about our health,” Olbermann joked. He then noted the irony behind Bush’s attack. “I mean he’s the father of the process that took us to the place we are now. He is the man who employed Roger Ailes. He and Roger Ailes are the men who ran the Willie Horton ad against Mike Dukakis.”
