Sequestration 2013: Twitter mind meld over Obama ‘Jedi’ trick

Politico

President Barack Obama on Friday sparked a Twitter explosion when he said in a press conference that he can’t perform a “Jedi mind meld” on the GOP, a phrase tweeters were quick to jab at, noting that the president should have said “Jedi mind trick.” The president also drew Twitter snark when he said that when it comes to negotiating with Congress on issues like averting the sequester, “I am not a dictator. I’m the president.” — a line that comes hours before sequestration is set to kick in. Here’s a look at how the political Twitterverse reacted:

all these geeky nerdy junkies know what the president meant, those of you that live in this fictitious world you ought to be thankful that he gave you geeks some props, as if non of you made mistakes or misspoke before. What other President even give you fantasy freaks any props?

It is encouraging to find that not all intelligent persons are ‘Trekkies.’

    BTW: What is a ‘Jedi’?

    • “The Jedi (/ˈdʒɛˌdaɪ/) are a religious group in the Star Wars universe. The Jedi use a power called the Force and weapons called lightsabers, which emit a controlled plasma flow in the shape of a sword, in order to serve and protect the Galactic Republic and the galaxy at large from conflict or governmental instability. Sometimes, the Jedi mediate peace negotiations among planets and other factions and, if necessary, use their formidable fighting skills, agility (mental and physical) and wisdom to quickly end unrest or neutralize dangerous individuals or threats to the/their way of life/order – balance/harmony. The Jedi are governed by a Council, consisting of twelve of the most powerful and wise members of the Jedi Order. They are bound to a code of ethics, morality, principles and justice. The Jedi are trained to use the Force through passive meditation, practising patience (patience is a virtue, and all good things come to those that/who/whom wait) [grammar - order, consider reversing?] rejection of passions and commitment to justice, as opposed to the ideals of the aggressive, highly passionate school known as the Sith, favoring instead what is known in contrast as “the Dark side.” ~

Thank you for the lesson in “Star Trek.” I feel quite enlightened now.

It would be wonderrful if we had that kind of governing body, but we seem to have no more than two or three — out of 535 legislators — who come even close to meeting the Jedi Council requirements of being “bound to a code of ethics, morality, principles and justice.”

        Just sayin’…
