Just watched Obama do a campaign speech live in Iowa. The way he connected with the crowd was magnificent! And he was so specific in detailing his plans and his differences with Romney.

I feel reassured. After the debates I expect he will win by a landslide.

Imagine the arrogance of a presidential candidate whose whole claim to fame is his business experience, but when you ask to look into his business experience he refuses to allow it. If he becomes POTUS what's he going to say to the country when our news reporters want information - "Get lost, you don't need to know that"?

He should be laughed out of the room and never taken seriously. But, instead, the Republican party has embraced him mindlessly since he appeals to what they hold most near and dear no matter what - the notion that they (white Republicans) "own" this country and all others should be happy to be tolerated.

I wrote this last night when I couldn't sleep - it's based on Samuel Taylor Coleridge's Kubla Khan - it's called Romney Khan't

At Tampa Bay the GOP
Accepted Mormon Romney:
Then Ryan, his nasty VP man
Scared oldies with his healthcare plan
And racists laughed - Tee-he!

So twice ten thousand cops were found
To beat on locals all around:
Then up jumped nutters, voices shrill,
And bayed for blood upon the Hill;
While cutting budgets for the ill,
Mid mindless acts of thievery.

The continuous lies got to me too. Intermittent inadvertent untruths or misstatements are bad but tolerable. Little white lies bug me too. But what the Republicans have adopted is a deliberate strategy of lying for the purpose of political gain. And after a while it starts to give me an ominous
sense of foreboding - like utter evil is on the ascent. (I sure hope I'm wrong.)

I watched the RNC from start to finish yesterday. When Romney said "when the world needs someone to do the really big stuff, you need an American” he received the loudest applause of the evening. Clearly he was implying, for that reason, we need someone other than Obama.

While Obama is trying to appeal to the American people's reason, Romney is appealing to their racism.

What does it mean that as a sixty five year old African American I still have faith that reason will prevail? Boy will I feel like a life long fool if I'm wrong about this.
