Single payer health care may resurrect itself if the SCOTUS knocks down the ACA.
By the way, Forbes‘ analogy is spot on…
With so many having already decided that Obamacare is now destined to meet its demise at the hands of the five Dark Lords of the Supreme Court, Obi-Wan Kenobi suddenly appears to be a great prophet of the future of American health care.
Picture, if you will, the dramatic, Death Star battle between Darth Vader and Ben Kanobi as Obi-Wan faces his former apprentice one last time.
Now replace Ob-Wan and Lord Vader with the images of Obama-Wan and his own arch-nemeses, Darth Scalia. As Lord Scalia prepares to deal the final blow to Obama-Wan, our protagonist, at peace with what he knows to be his destiny, issues his final warning to the most powerful Lord of the Dark Side—
“Strike me down and I shall become more powerful than you could possibly imagine.”
There is great wisdom and prophesy in these words.
While an adverse decision in the Supreme Court would vanquish the Affordable Care Act to a footnote of modern American history, the systemic crisis in healthcare that the law exists to address will still remain. That crisis will, invariably, give rise to something far more powerful —and far more repugnant to the conservative side of the American force—than what Obama and the Democratic Congress originally envisioned for the country. This would be universal single-payer healthcare, courtesy of the United States government.
