The Democrat’s lack of will during the Bush administration was the catalyst that prompted me to leave that party and become an independent. Apparently the author this article is now feeling how I felt a few years ago.
This piece actually reminds me of An Open Letter To Conservatives…
Home Brewed Theology
It’s not me, it’s you.
For years I’ve known you were spineless, afraid of your own shadows. I’ve seen those who dare proudly wear the label of “liberal” marginalized by those of you who say you’re liberal, but govern as center-right. I’ve seen the growing influence of corporate America pull you further and further from all those things that ‘the left’ holds dear, all in the name of campaign contributions and reelection.
Yet I’ve stood by you, hoping against hope that you’d return to your roots and actually act like liberals again.
No more.
This debt ‘deal’ is the straw that has broken this camel’s back. This inability to fight for what we believe in, evidenced by rolling over and giving John Boehner, himself beholden to the Tea Party, 98% of what he wanted is inexcusable.
The economy is a mess, a mess created by those who now hold it hostage and demand that we shrink the size of Government to where it can be ‘dragged into the bathroom and drowned in the tub’, as Grover Norquist once said.
Senator Reid called this deal ‘compromise’. Giving the opposition 98% of what they wanted isn’t compromise, it’s not even capitulation, it’s flat-out surrender.
You’ve surrendered to a minority of loud-mouthed know-nothings who, given half a chance, will go back on their word if not given everything they want and throw a public tantrum on par with a cranky toddler being pulled from the toy section in your local big box retailer.

I’ve been an Independent for close to 40 years, as I have no use belonging to either party.
Good move on your part, Don!
To me, it’s all about geography. Progressive region, I would volunteer for something better than Dems. Conservative region, I would be 100% behind the Dems to kick the evil guys out. Swing district, I dunno.

Interesting concept Jean-Philippe, but volunteer for what? I suppose I need an example.
Either a new party or the greens… Ralph Nader is someone i admire a lot… If they can elect 50+ teabaggers in Washington, we can send 50 Bernie Sanders. Dems must choose over defending their right or their left…
Ahh! I agree 100% jean-philippe.
