How The Right Wing “Disinformation ” Campaign Works (Video)

Even if you don’t read the post, you should definitely watch the video.

Alternet

Brave New Films has provided, with Bernie Sanders, a clear deconstruction of the origins and process of the conservative disinformation propaganda machine. It’s scary.

If you have been paying attention to television, radio, newspapers, the Internet, and various talk shows, including the batch on Sunday morning, you have heard two words repeated a lot; so often there is actually the sound of an echo. The first word is collapse … collapse … collapse; the second word is bankrupt… bankrupt … bankrupt. Can you guess why these words are repeated over and over (and no, this is not about the Greek economy)?

These words are being used and reused to describe the persistent disinformation that, if successful, will impact millions of people, probably even you, who are reading this. Did you guess right? The first message is: “We must raise the retirement age or the economy will collapse.” And two: “Social security is bankrupt.”

These two statements have been repeated thousands of times in and on American media. Yet there is not one scintilla of evidence that either one is accurate. But they have lodged themselves into the mainstream of American thought, constantly repeated by corporate media, as if they are obvious truths.

  1. Thank you Bernie Sanders. This should be played on tv every hour on the hour. Why are they so LOUD and we are so silent?
Why are there no comments here? Hello…….

  2. Hi Judy. I just posted this at 12:20 am. I expect a lot more comments by mid-day. Thanks for your comments.

The dead giveaway that the “imminent collapse” rhetoric is bogus is the fact that the alarm has been sounded only recently despite the fact that Social Security’s health has been monitored closely using mathematical calculations and actuarial analysis since its very beginning. So what happened in the last few years? Did they finally learn to count?

I always new the alarms are bogus. It is really scary, though, to see the media echo chambers in action. Even the so called “liberal media” like MSNBC fail miserably in debunking the disinformation. The problem is it takes money to produce information and bring it to the public. But it’s rarely in the interest of those with all the money to produce information that is in the public interest. The same applies to the production of legislation. That’s why our legislators have such a hard time being the voice of the public – witness their inability to end funding for the wars or raise taxes on the super rich, both of which have overwhelming public support in both parties.

Big money has corrupted our government and it will remain that way until legislation is passed that scrupulously and meticulously and creatively removes all advantage a legislator might obtain from wealthy contributors. But how and why would the wealthy benefactors ever allow that to happen, considering that as it now stands it takes gobs of cash to even BECOME a legislator?

…and that will only happen with a democratic majority in the House and Senate!
