Joe Scarborough Takes On Newt Gingrich Mosque Comments: ‘It’s Deplorable, It Is Sick Politics’ (VIDEO)

Huffington Post

Morning Joe” host Joe Scarborough has devoted much of his program’s airtime so far this week to criticizing Newt Gingrich over the former House Speaker’s recent comments regarding the proposed Islamic cultural center near Ground Zero.

On Saturday Gingrich called the proposed center a symbol of Muslim “triumphalism” and compared the construction of such a building to “putting a Nazi sign next to the Holocaust Museum.” He repeated the Nazi analogy in an interview Monday morning on Fox News and referred to the project’s organizers as “radical Islamists,” a characterization that is demonstrably false.

The “Morning Joe” crew didn’t take too kindly to Gingrich’s words, and let him know in no uncertain terms. “This is madness,” remarked Scarborough, a former Republican congressman from Florida. “There are elements of our party that are marching through the fevered swamps of ideology.

“We’ve put together a highlight reel of Scarborough, along with frequent “Morning Joe” guests Mike Barnicle, Richard Haass, and Pat Buchanan (yes, even Pat Buchanan), sounding off against Gingrich over the course of the past three mornings.

  1. Altho a MJoe fan…his actions this week are puzzling. Over and Over and Over he accuses Newt of labeling all Muslims as Nazi’s…Newt did not. Newt gave two comparable instances (killing of the guard at the Holocaust museum and Pearl Harbor) and stated “we wouldn’t allow a Nazi to wave a flag (there)” and “we wouldn’t allow Japan to erect a monument (there)”. Poor example and the use of the word Nazi is rarely good but…doesn’t equate to labeling all Muslims Nazi’s…or Japanese.

If I had a nickel for every time Joe uttered NEWT last week and today my 401k would be paid up. Either Joe really hates Newt or he’s being owned by MSNBC’s research department or (hate to think it) doing MSNBC’s dirty work in smearing Newt. Either way, it’s waaay beneath Joe and is uguhhleeee!

    1. Scott – You’d be stating a good case, if that was actually what he said. But his actual full quote was: “The folks who want to build this mosque, who are really radical Islamists, who want to triumphfully prove they can build a mosque next to a place where 3,000 Americans were killed by radical Islamists. Those folks don’t have any interest in reaching out to the community. They’re trying to make a case about supremacy, that’s why they wont go anywhere else, that’s why they wont accept any other offer. And I think we ought to be honest about the fact that we have a right…and this happens all the time in America . Nazis don’t have the right to put up a sign next to the Holocaust Museum in Washington . We would never accept the Japanese putting up a site next to Pearl Harbor . There is no reason for us to accept a mosque next to the World Trade Center .”

Now, I am not for building the mosque, but I think Newt is going around arguing against it the wrong way.

      1. Johnny,
Correct, but even in full context, you can’t make the point Newt, regardless of his overeach in the above statemnt, can be accurately accused of “labeling all Muslims Nazi’s”…this he did not do. Nor, as I said above to further emphasize my point…could he be accused of “labeling” all Muslims Japanese.

This is my point and my dissapointment with Joe.

        Regards
