This news is huge but will never really see the light of day in the mainstream media. For some reason, the MSM and the American people have turned a deaf ear on the vote suppression accusations of 2000 and 2004.
In fact very few liberal or conservative bloggers ever made a big deal about what could possibly have been TWO STOLEN ELECTIONS during the Bush era. Yet, in recent history, news outlets like Fox News accused ACORN or voter fraud. The projection was simply astonishing. It immediately took me back to Jack Clark’s mantra:
Everything the right-wing does is designed to accomplish one of two things. Either
(a) transfer wealth from everyone else to the rich, or
(b) distract everyone else from the fact that (a) is occurring.
Caroline Hunter, a Bush-appointed Federal Election Commissioner who remains in office, provided misleading statements under oath in an effort to conceal Republican National Committee involvement in vote suppression activities during the 2004 presidential election, a Raw Story investigation has found.
Legal experts say Hunter’s submission of such statements under oath is a serious ethical and professional breach which could warrant a bar review and potential disbarment. At the time, Hunter was serving as deputy counsel to the Republican National Committee.
How a young Republican lawyer became a central witness
In the final days of the 2004 presidential election, the Democratic National Committee files an injunction against the Republican National Committee in New Jersey federal court, alleging its involvement in using lists of returned mail to challenge 35,000 newly registered Ohio voters. This tactic, also known as voter caging, is historically employed to suppress votes from minority and low-income citizens who tend to vote Democratic. More>>>
I have John Conyers book about what happened in the 2004 elections, particularly but not exclusively in Ohio. The Congress got many thousands of complaints from people all over the country.
There were numerous instances of strange results in, for example, New Mexico. Native Americans there who had travelled over 2 hours to their polling place and waited in line for a couple more, mysteriously voted only down ticket and not for president. They had a history of voting over 80% Democratic.
In Texas and Alaska there were precincts where the vote tally was over 103% or more of the total registered voters. These were heavily Republican precincts.
African Americans in Ohio and Florida complained that when they went to vote they were refused. One man said he was told he couldn’t vote because he was a convicted felon which was not true.
Caging lists were acquired from Choice Point, a company that processes credit card purchases and magazine subscription purchases. The RNC requested lists of people who subcribe to Ebony or purchased items at stores catering to African Americans.
You’re right kstreet, the media will never cover any of this. Several books have been written and hopefully there will be a comprehensive documentary in the future.
Glix, you and I know the issues. However, for some reason, the American elctorate does not want to know that such things go on in a democracy. They’d rather not see the dirty underbelly of electoral politics, I guess.
